I’m taking it way back today, back to a time when not even twitter existed – 2007. It was in that ancient time when Mark Ronson released a cover album called Version. The last track I posted from that album was Lily Allen’s amazing cover of the Kaiser Chiefs’ Oh My God, if you’re new around these parts, do a quick search on the blog and check it out, it’s well worth the listen. This time around I’m posting Ronson’s rendition Britney’s infectious hit Toxic. Ronson adds some NYC to it by including hip hops grittiest rapper, the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
You’re probably asking yourself, what kind of stupid name is ODB? Well, believe it or not there’s actually a very bad ass reason why he picked that name. Ol’ Dirty Bastard basically means that his style is so unique and original that no man could have fathered it. That may not mean a lot to some but for those of us into competition and the arts that concept is particularly dear. Also, if you listen to any of ODB’s early Wu-Tang records you’ll see just how much sense that name makes. Here’s the Ronson version of Toxic to get your Friday going, enjoy.

Haha. I can pretty much guarantee neither of you were using twitter in 2007.

i wasn't using twitter in 2006 or 2007. in fact, i've never even signed up. i find it superfluous.
but… HMJ, if you've signed up for twitter, i can "pretty much guarantee" (with 60% accuracy), that you aren't using it anymore.
they have only a 40% retention rate of users.

i tried it when i saw it at sxsw in 07.
youre right though, i didnt use it on a regular basis until last year.
Yeah I think it took off in the last 10 months or so.
While what you're saying about ODB's choice of name is true, it's also worth noting that he took his name from the 1980 kung fu movie "Ol' Dirty & the Bastard".
Yeah you're right. Actually most of the Wu-Tang members got their names for Kung-Fu movies.
