Erol Alkan is slowly becoming one of my favorite remixers/people in the music business. You may remember when we posted his wonderful remix of MGMT’s Congratulations but if you don’t get familiar because he’s one to look out for and know about. The London based DJ has been tearing up the electronic music scene for more than a decade and is the guy who founded the legendary Trash nightclub back in ’97. The club closed it’s doors in ’07 but if you never got to go it was one of the few places back in that time that kept underground electronic and alternative music in rotation. To put it in perspective, many of the acts that led the way for what is now well known indie electronic and alternative – Peaches, LCD Soundsystem, Klaxons, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Electric Six – went through Trash when they were just up and coming.
I love people who take it upon themselves to give new art a chance, it’s inspiring and the second I can open up my own place I’ll be doing the exact same thing. Speaking of which, we’ve just about locked in the location for the next Noctambule party and it’s absolutely mind blowing. Like Diamonds will be performing and I’m talking to Steph today about the second act, we’re just about ready to announce it so stay tuned.
His latest work is a remix of Metromony’s The Bay and there’s only one way to describe it:
It feel sooo good…”
As usual, Erol provides and epic arrangement and production made for boats, dance floors, pool sides, harbors, bays and beaches. In the age of microwave music, quick hits and on-demand it takes some serious skill to produce an 8 minute long song that keeps your audiences attention. That said, he does take his time introducing the songs elements so chill out and take your time listening – welcome to the space age, that’s how it’s done around these parts. Summer is just about here and I can’t wait to make it up to Nantucket and the favorite summer hideaways but today I have to wrap up a playlist for a restaurant in Midtown but press play on this gem and get your friday started right, enjoy.
It feel sooo good…”
