Fitz and the Tantrums – Winds Of Change

So much has happened in the last year, EMPT continues to grow, I’ve got a wonderful team of writers on the rise, Ryan Radler and Steph are coming with the freshest mixtapes on either side of the globe and all we havent even started. Still, I’ve had enough ups and downs this year to last me a lifetime but looking back…

I did the shit to death, I guess I ain’t killin it this rhyme… I’m here to raise the stakes…” – Fat Joe (Safe to Say)

I was working on the music for a new restaurant in the city and I rediscovered one of my favorite songs from last year, Fitz & The Tantrums’s Winds of Change. This song is so simple yet extremely emotional an prolific. The lyrics are about the ever so painful process of moving on from someone you love. It’s always that much harder when you care about the person but sometimes even love can be work against you and you have to move on. It’s so easy to live in the past, to be sad about something you think you’re missing out on, it’s what we all do because it’s easy, comfortable and addicting. But have you ever thought of doing the opposite, thinking about the possibilities ahead, being excited and confident about the uncertain future?

The future, we found, to stay on higher ground… – Miami Horror (I Look To You)

Contrary to popular opinion the choice is yours. It’s soooo easy to use external factors as an excuse to dwell in self pity and not live up to your limitless potential. The truth is that it’s all mental and anyone who thinks different, we’ll just by thinking that they’re the antithesis of that truth. Avoid those people like the plague, it’s not an argument up for debate, the universe is mental, everything around us from airplanes to little amazing phone you’re using to read this was a thought first. Our minds are the most powerful things on earth and that’s something we shouldn’t take for granted.  The truth is that ur mood, feelings and emotions are ruled by the thoughts we chose to value. It’s been said many times before that thoughts are things and your paradigm is what creates the reality you live in. We gotta be ruthless against unworthy thoughts because our minds are incredible but the subconscious is a slave to you and thus will manifest anything you give it – good or bad. Anyways, I really love this song and it got me thinking this morning. Take a listen as you keep those thoughts in check, enjoy.
