Chad Valley – Now That I’m Real

As our summer of 2011 nears its end, and I’m back in effect from a slightly extended but very much needed LA hiatus, I receive an e-mail from a dear friend with a youtube link for a newer Chad Valley tune that I had not yet been exposed to, — and what a great summery golden breeze tune this turned out to be. Chad Valley’s “Now That I’m Real” single off of his Equatorial Ultravox Ep is most certainly, what I would categorize, a bright sunny summer day banger that will instantly make even the most depressed individual better.

The song features the use of some nicely placed tropical steel drums that sound as good, and almost as live, as the likes of a Jamaican band I once heard playing away on Treasure Beach in the Roatan Islands of Honduras a few years back. A sexily tucked in keyboard riff adds a tasteful touch of sonic ear candy to continue with the profound body and head bops provided by the entire atmosphere of this musical created. Waves splashing, beautiful bodies moving, and us laying back, arms behind our heads, sunglasses on, simply taking in the entire view. Perfection.

As if somehow being warped right back to that day on Treasure Beach, next to that scrumptious blond trophy date I scored, the synth pads reel me back onto the sand as we laid down glaring right back into the sunset, watching it slowly melt away into the sea all while the most perfect summer breeze seeped in from wherever the sun had dissipated gently into.

Hugo Manuel, aka Chad Valley adds some nicely placed background vocals here for that dreamscapey/chillwave sound that sits so well over the production without drowning it all out. Much like our NYC city summers that end so abruptly ever year, and seem to end even sooner and sooner every year thereafter, the song comes to an unwanted end leaving you yearning for more. More music, more cool sounds, more chilled out vocals, and more summery days with the crew, sexy ladies in tow and the simpler alcoholic concoctions, grade a weed, and tiny bikini’s to chill out to…

We timed the finish, and we timed it oh so well”
