I’d like to start this one post, my first one here at EMPT, by stating the fact and how happy I am to start contributing to a music blog that I respect so much for its quality and editorial. Don’t want to miss this public opportunity to thank Hec and Mollie. Do watch out for my posts and please do tell me your thoughts in the comments section. Without further ado, here goes my first:
The first time I heard this song I couldn’t make out the feeling it evoked and brought out in me.
It starts a cappella with the first verse — quite naked. And then, the piano comes in and the rest of the instruments follow; all the while Dillon‘s voice and the lyrics have the starring role.
For you I found a cell on the top floor of a prison just enough space for you to fit your feet in if you go, do let me know”
And while the original is good, I found this bootleg a month ago and I’ve had it on high rotation ever since. It’s faithful to the original adding just the right touch of beats and percussions. It has a special groove to it, keeps evoking feelings of melancholy with it’s mellow vibe yet you can’t avoid grooving to it when it starts kickin’. After the second time I had heard it I couldn’t get it out of my head, especially the chorus and that: cha chaa.
There are various remixes out there but this bootleg stands out. It’s a rare find and one that we, here at EMPT, truly believe you should get to know. Feel free to pair this one with those warm-up cocktails in your loft before heading out.
