The Beach is one of my favorite movies of all time. That’s not to say that the acting was incredible, or that the casting was impeccable. It’s not to say that it’s the best movie ever written, or the best movie ever for that matter. It is simply one of my favorite movies of all time because it totally captures an entire vibe that I somehow long to have. That vibe is the super chilled out and worry-free mode that is so visibly evident through the locations and shots recorded on this film. It’s a summer escape to a land of make believe that may, or may not exist.
Andy Warhol once said:
“Fantasy love is much better than reality love. Never doing it is very exciting. The most exciting attractions are between two opposites that never meet.”
The fantasy of some Utopian society much like the characters of this film find is the fantasy that attracts me to it so intensely. Her Fantasy (Poolside Remix) is like listening to a sonic version of “The Beach”. From the moment the song starts it’s as if the journey to the actual beach in the movie begins. From the taxi ride to the airport, to a soothing screenshot of you placing a pair of headphones over your head, a pillow, and a blanket on a plane, the song takes you on a tropically chilled out mission to find that mellowed out bliss that so many of us so secretly desire. A world full of beautifully perfect weather, zero needs, all the weed you can smoke, your very own secluded and private beach, and all the time on the planet to not think about time, and the other things that truthfully don’t matter.
If you had to stop what you were doing at this very moment, and I could ask you what it is that you actually needed, in this very moment, right now; the answer would probably be: “nothing”. So why not sit around and need “nothing” in the most perfect environment imaginable ― forever?
Poolside is ready to send you there, on that journey, the moment you hit play…
