I’ve never heard as many remixes of one song as I have for this track. That doesn’t mean that I won’t continue to seek out and admire the remixes that deserve praise. This is definitely one of those remixes. What’s great about this take on the track is how honest it is to the original, highlighting the key parts that seem to stick out most in our heads after listening. The boom-boom-boom-bah’s and the hey! heyo’s get a spotlight, while the verses that build-up race consistently with a cymbal and electro drum sounds to a release that is uninhibited and hard to ignore. Every time I play this track again, I learn something new. Like how the verse: star so light, star so bright, first star I see tonight is played with so that the vocals are every so slightly off from the original. It’s a minor change, and if the track was changed anymore it would be dishonest and maybe a little annoying. But this right here is perfection.
The hurricane has somehow managed to bring a swift change in seasons, which has forced me to accept that Winter is arriving quickly. But today, I have no priorities. Today, my priority is to write and hide away from the cold. It’s a Saturday but it doesn’t feel like the weekend and this song has been reverberating off the walls of my brain for the past half hour. I think my fellow New Yorkers agree when I say that this week has been a blessing in disguise for those who were lucky enough to stay safe and sound. My love and thoughts go out to those who have suffered from the side affects of this hurricane, seeing as I do have family that has been in the dark all week. I wish nature had another way of reminding us that it is in fact in charge and in full control of our lives, but alas, this is the only way. We can only be thankful for the safety and positivity of others that surround us.
That being said, the blessing of this week of isolation sans public transportation, is how we’ve all been forced to slow down in every regard. I found myself taking time to talk to people I ran into on the street, making zero plans, and taking everything in stride. A beautiful and eery thing that nature can do to us. That’s where my mind has been, and that’s probably why I found this song so perfect for this day and week. May your weekends be easy going, as we prepare to get back on our grind come Monday.
