There’s a very special spot in my heart for the rock bands that existed before me. All of them have something to offer us, whether it’s an old sound that should resurface, lyricism with simplicity and craft, or musician dynamic. There is always something to learn. Whenever I hear an old classic track remixed by today’s finest talent, I get happy. As I did with this track. The dynamic between old and new is not threatening, nor does it overshadow the pre-existing. I think that I tend to talk a lot about respect when it comes to remixes — how much regard did the new production have for the old? That’s one of the most important aspects of remixing, to me at least.
Isn’t me, Have a seed
Let me clip, Dirty wings
Let me take a ride, Cut yourself
Want some help, Help myself
Got some rope, Have been told
I promise you, Have been true
Let me take a ride, I cut yourself
Want some help, Please myself.”
Bruno Be let’s us take a ride. The combination of vocal layers maintained from the original against a futuristic, yet classic, electronic wave of a bass line the fade out then fade in of sound over the vocals, the machine claps…everything is perfect.
The lyrics are definitely something to talk about, but something I have chosen not to discuss in this post. The original song left me a little bit too sad, and while it’s really important to acknowledge that, this remix doesn’t channel the same sadness. I’ll just leave the live version for you to get your fill.
