Dent May releases Warm Blankets this Tuesday, August 27. What caught my attention about this ’70s pop inspired sound is the simplicity of it and the lightly veiled darkness of his lyrics longing for love. You listen to it and swear you are suffering from False Memory Syndrome as you recollect swaying along with that guy-from-forever-ago as he rubs against you in that itchy pastel suit on the high school basketball court.
May reportedly locked himself up in a haunted mansion in St.Augustine, Florida to record his third album. Once you have a listen to the album, you hear the loneliness and melancholy of the writer woven in to each song. I think that is what makes this particular song stand out. It draws you and when it ends, you just got to enjoy it. Effortless. Simple. This Mississippi native plays nearly all of the instruments heard here and brings in talent he found in Florida to fill in as needed on the album.
Being a Florida native, I always enjoy hearing how musicians can go there and create an experience like this that you can listen to. It actually reminds me of home.
