Beastie Boys – Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win (Feat. Santigold)

“…that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.”

-Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, 2006.

Oh yes. Next week marks the beginning of New York Fashion Week. For many, this is a week of discovering the new and the outrageous, the unimaginable and the unobtainable. The taste makers of the industry will all flock to Lincoln Center once more to admire the work of fashion gods.

I understand that not all people are moved or inspired by this (arguable) holiday of  delight, but in the words of Miranda Priestly, it will undoubtably affect you. Perhaps the fashion will not get to you first, but the music will. Each year, shows play new tracks from artists and some old tracks which they have dusted off and given new life to. Much like that of the recycled trends in fashion. Each show has a soundtrack which is made to strut to, to make a statement to. Many of which even publish their mixes after the show making the experience available to the masses.

Whether you are in to the clothes or the scene or none of it, you will likely hear some of the songs played next week off the runway. I, personally, can’t wait.

Here is a song which was played during NYFW Fall 2013 DKNY show. A tasty mix of the Beastie Boys and Santigold creating a track which is a perfect harmony of hip-hop and reggae inspirations. The playful vocal details brought in with Santigold’s sweet vocal styling draped over the horns and classic Beastie Boys anthem make this a timeless piece to add to your playlist. This is a song which rounded out last year’s season and lays way for the fresh tunes to be released next week, which will undoubtably have the trend spotters of the world tapping their toes and strutting around town months after the tents close.
