I was watching a bad ass movie called Ichi about a sexy blind girl who also happens to be a master Samurai on a journey to find her teacher. The beutiful Ichi walks around trying to mind her business but keeps running into all these bad guys that force her to show her skills and kill them. Throughout the movie there are these flashbacks that show the girls horrible past and why she’s so focused on her journey.

Anyways, throughout the movie this lonesome girl barely talks, doesn’t care for money and seems to have this level of understanding few even know exist. Everywhere she goes people are marveled by her skill as a Sumurai, and on top of all the she’s a musician. This is pretty much the girl of my dreams, too bad ass kicking noble-minded Kung-Fu girls only exist in the movies. Anyways, this remix of So Light Is Her Footfall should have been the closing credits or something, the songs lyrics depict a similar girl who also moves in darkness and mystery and it couldn’t be more fitting, enjoy.

Musically there have been a few defining moments in my life, one of them being the first time I was put onto Wu-Tang’s Enter The 36 Chambers. I didn’t understand exactly what it was that I was listening to, but I did know for sure that this was something I wanted to hear more of. The gritty beats, lyrics, and overall content of the records were like watching a movie, and I couldn’t look away. I studied every scene, visualizing the whole album in a slightly different way each time through. My 36 Chambers cassette had found a permanent home in my walkman, where it stayed until excessive use led to the tape literally unravelling. I did some serious surgery on it, but to no avail … so I bought another. I still have that cassette, along with the vinyl and CD to match.

RZA’s performance as producer on 36 Chambers is one for the ages. ”Tearz” is actually one of the only records on there for which he used just one sample – Wendy Rene’s “After Laughter.” The first 20 seconds of the song provided RZA with a perfect hook, and also a jumpy loop for the verses. I like the way RZA chose drums sounds that accompany the sample without overpowering it, which creates the perfect backdrop for the stories him and Ghostface tell in their verses. Just another great record on a historic album.

Saturdays on EMPT are usually reserved for Kevin Casey’s sampled Saturday’s but I’ve been so busy developing the Le DJ branch of the site that Kevin and I haven’t even had the chance to speak. However, I was able to find a great remake to honor our beloved sampled saturdays. Who Do You Love is an infectious soul record written in 1964 that reached #25 on Billboard. Last year, Museum of Bella Artes, a Swedish pop band remade it into one the catchiest and chilled out songs I’ve heard in a while. The production on this record is clean, tasteful, full of great decisions all while still maintaining the essence of the original, these Swedes know what they’re doing when it comes to music.

The songs lyrics are about a girl who isn’t sure of her place with the guy she’s in love with. When in love, most people see what they want to see and not what’s really there. They say love is blind which is true but I’m going to go ahead and say that love isn’t just blind it’s also blinding. This is why when a breakup happens it seems like the person you were with did a 360 and completely changed on you, but they didn’t change fool, they just became themselves again. I’m not a fan of courtship that requires lying and half-ass commitment, that type of game is fugazi and worst of all it waste people’s time. Anyways, gotta get my Saturday going so keep it real with your love interest and enjoy the good music.

Heartbreaker is the surprise collaboration between MSTRKRFT and John Legend originally from the Fist of God album. The lyrics to to this song are pretty straight forward but fitting, he’s passionately in love with a girl who quits on him in the heat of the moment. Now he’s living with this strange combination of love and pain because for some sucker-mc reason he still loves the girl despite the fact that she’s off with a new playboy.

I heard the original To The Light House before I left for Cali and the remix when I got back to New York. It was then and there that I learned how much I don’t like NYC winters anymore. I’m a very visual person and aesthetics can have a pretty big impact on the way I feel. That said, I’ve been realizing that there’s just not that much inspiring nature in the city and with all the girls covered up there just isn’t much to look in general. Thankfully, there are songs like this to let me daydream while I look at this concrete jungle.

Memoryhouse is a fairly new guy & girl team and they’re also very big aesthetics, in fact a big part of their music is their photography. I was digging this Millionyoung remix and wanted to know more about this dreamy sound so I found an interview and was impressed by the way they approach their music and so on. Check it out…

MASSES: Thanks for joining us. Firstly tell me how you guys met and began playing together?
MEMORYHOUSE: Denise used to be a concert photographer, and she and I would run into each other at shows. We became friends pretty quickly; I think our creative output—her photography and my music—shared a common aesthetic, so it only felt natural to collaborate on something.

MASSES: Who have some of your inspirations been along the way?
MEMORYHOUSE: Obviously bands like My Bloody Valentine Galaxy 500, Cocteau Twins are influences that are easy to trace back to us, but we’re also really inspired by Philip Glass, Tim Hecker, Boards of Canada, Suicide, Faust, etc.

MASSES: You guys are obviously pretty artistic people. Any other creative outputs?
MEMORYHOUSE: Denise and I both love photography and it’s something that we consciously try to incorporate into Memoryhouse. We’re both visual people, so I guess that’s why we’re always trying to connect photography and film into our music somehow. Denise also likes to do crafts, she made me a sailboat.

MASSES: With all these different genre names floating around nowadays, what would you class Memoryhouse as?
MEMORYHOUSE: Chillwave has been a term associated with us from early on, and we’re fine with it because it seems to be more of a response to the type of imagery the songs elicit, although I wouldn’t necessarily place ourselves in that genre. I guess a song like “To the Lighthouse” or “Lately” provoke a certain visceral response in people—there’s a “dreamy” quality to it. At the same time though, the songs are somewhat neurotic and paranoid. I guess we get away with it because the level of dissonance between the sound and the content is so defined; “Sometimes I’m pulled away from my own misery” takes on a different meaning. Genre qualifications generally reflect a kind of subjective interpretation of trends and popular opinion rather than specific qualities and attributions, and I guess having a band name with “memory” in it bears certain associations.

MASSES: Why did you decide to give away your EP for free download?
MEMORYHOUSE: I think we just wanted it to reach as many people as possible. Free music allows listeners to listen objectively without worrying about justifying their purchase, or perhaps being too influenced by the media. It’s a simple concept really; you get to decide for yourself whether or not it’s worth your time.

MASSES: So do you think the internet has helped your career?
MEMORYHOUSE: The internet made our career really. Blogs like Delicious Scopitone, Transparent, FMLY, Get Off the Coast and MagicRPM not only helped get us wider exposure, but their continued support led to sites like Gorilla vs. Bear and Pitchfork to take notice of us as well. The French online record label BEKO also really helped us along by issuing a digital single of ours in December.

MASSES: I did notice that you gained the attention of Pitchfork. Do you think of this as a blessing?
MEMORYHOUSE: I tend to see it as a blessing. A site like Pitchfork tends to legitimize music for many people. There are so many bands and so much music out there, so if a site that’s renowned for their particular taste starts paying attention to you, you take notice.

MASSES: Do you think the internet had a positive / negative impact on the music industry?
MEMORYHOUSE: I don’t feel that it’s had a positive impact on the music industry, but it has definitely had a positive impact on music. The internet is possibly the closest we’ll ever come to Franklin’s vision of “meritocracy”. Sure, there will always be rich assholes in suits controlling the music industry by throwing money at it, that’s a given, but every once in a while there comes a game changer like “Feel it All Around” or Susan Boyle or whatever that will create something significantly forward thinking that will leave the “industry” scrambling for years trying to keep up with it. It’s been seven years since “Such Great Heights” came out of nowhere and went gold, and they’ve only now managed to effectively cash in on it (You know who I’m talking about).

MASSES: Tell us about the music scene in your hometown. Do you receive much support for your music back home?
MEMORYHOUSE: I used to be more involved in the “scene” back home, going to shows, doing sound EQ for bands etc, but I haven’t for a long time. I think I more or less got too busy with school, or on a larger scale, felt alienated by the kind of generic electro indie rock clusterfuck that seemingly swallowed our culture. I think our hometown and the surrounding area has a truly amazing art-punk scene though, led by bands like Brides and Actual Water to name a few. It’s music that will probably never get the exposure and recognition it deserves since it isn’t trendy or anything, but it’s definitely the best part of our music scene right now.

MASSES: Who are some of your favourite upcoming acts?
MEMORYHOUSE: Cloud Nothings are great; it’s kind of ridiculous how many hooks they’re capable of packing into one song. “Hey Cool Kid” is the most hypnotically catchy song I’ve heard this year.

MASSES: Memoryhouse has a very layered soundscape. Explain to us your live setup. What equipment do you guys use? Who plays what?
MEMORYHOUSE: We just finished putting together a live band; we’re going to be playing shows pretty soon. I thought it’d be really difficult to capture that layers and ambience live, but it’s been going really well. I’m using a loop pedal to perpetually layer the songs with guitar as they progress so that none of the interweaving melodies such as the guitar arrangements in “Sleep Patterns” get lost in translation. Aside from that, we have our good friend Bryan playing bass, and Gabrielle playing piano/organ while we broadcast beats from a sampler. Denise focuses on singing mostly, but she does percussion as well.

MASSES: What goes into your song writing process, how does it all come together?
MEMORYHOUSE: I like to approach a composition from a few different angles before I settle on an arrangement. I think the beat I use ends up playing a factor in determining the “character” of the song. I’ll generally demo a song with three or four different arrangements and assess what works and what doesn’t. I tend to be analytical with my writing, stemming from years of composing classical music. Writing pop music, however, takes me out of my comfort zone so I try to follow my intuition when I’m arranging songs.

MASSES: What’s next for Memoryhouse? Plans for the near future?
MEMORYHOUSE: We’ve got a To the Lighthouse 7” coming out in March, and a longer EP coming out in the spring called Looms of Youth. We really want to travel, so hopefully a trip to Europe is in our near future. Aside from that, we just want to keep writing, and keep playing, and just keep releasing more music; it’s been such a wonderful experience so far.

I got an email last week telling me about the new Lo-Fi-Fnk song but I put it to the back burner because of the madness happening with the Grammy’s, how unfortunate because this track is great. Most of you will remember LFF from their 2006 EP Boylife, an album which sounds absolutely nothing like this track, in a good way. The sudden change in style is causing mixed reviews, however we totally welcome exploration, growth and their ability to switch it up and give us something new.

Forthebeat’s KC found some real gems including an unknown band out of Atlanta called Sunglasses, a South Carolina native called Coma Cinema and then there’s California based Peasant, all acts to definitely look out for this year. Of course I had to include one of my ultimate favorites, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, actually there’s 2 tracks from them on this mix because after all, what’s a month without Karen O? It’s my last day in L.A. and the Grammy’s have officially taken over so this is going to be a quick one. West Hollywood is packed, exotic cars everywhere, stunning exotic girls everywhere, the weather is amazing and to top it off it’s all about the music, let’s just say I’m not looking forward to flying back to freezing cold NYC. Anyways, I was looking for a song that could capture the energy and glamor of the weekend and I couldn’t think of anything better then Fabian’s banger Heatwave. Alright, I haven’t been able to sit in front of my computer for more then 5 minutes at a time this trip and this time is no exception but put this track on tonight while you’re driving down Sunset admiring the LA Lights, enjoy.

Dragonette – Pick Up The Phone (Michael Van She Remix)

I’m sitting poolside at the Grafton in West Hollywood being super rude and blogging over brunch but I heard this remix last night and wanted to post it before I venture off for the day.

The original Dragonette song is a phenomenal song about two lovers who have a blast together but are apart because one of them is denying him/herself for whatever reason. A lot of people always knock the hedonistic but I always like to look at both sides of the coin and notice many who practice so much self-restraint that they actually think it’s wrong to indulge in something they like. As with all things, the answer is in the middle but I think it’s important to be aware of the extremes because that’s usually what most resort to.

Most remixes these days seem to be outdoing the originals and while I think this Van She remix is phenomenal, it’s different enough to get it’s own credit but doesn’t outshine the original, there’s something very tasteful about that. Anyways, I have a few days left in Cali so I have to leave get back in the mix before the grammy’s take over, enjoy.

Apologies to all our readers, I’ve been out in LA this week and haven’t had the time to post. You can’t blame me, it’s hard to think about blogging while driving down Pacific highway or walking around Venice beach, it’s just not gonna happen. Nevertheless, I woke up early because I didn’t want to leave you guys hanging. I did a post back in our early days about the complex nature of fame and success, given that SoCal is probably the pinnacle of this I thought it would be cool to bring that back, enjoy.

I saw a recent interview with Kanye in which he was justifying his narcissism by proposing that he is two people, Kanye West the product and Kanye West the person.

I have the right to talk in third person because I’m me as a person, but also I’m a walking brand.”

Interesting. Everyone see’s Kanye West as arrogant and self-righteous, I see him as someone coping with some very important issues we all have to deal with. I think Mr. West is developing into a master of consumerism, a master or a victim – it’s a very thin line. Either way, the one song from 808’s & Heartbreak that I’ve actually willingly listened to is Welcome to Heartbreak, a very authentic song which truly captures the bittersweet aspects of his recent success.

I never went to my econ class in college so I don’t remember much but the one thing I did pick up was that the real cost of something is what you have to give up to get it. A concept I’ve really have to come to grips with lately, because even when you win big in this world your still losing something. That said, ambition is a complicated subject, one needs to be fully aware of who one is and what one wants before devoting to a particular end. The way to do that is by being brutally honest with yourself, a task not many are willing to undertake. In the words of Hector Lavoe:

You might ask, “KC, where did you find this song?” I don’t know. But these breezy beats with a southern twist are pretty addictive, and I’ve listened to this song over and over since first discovering it yesterday.

Sunglasses is the brainchild of 8000 bam bam (Samuel Cooper) & Baby Seal (Brady Keehn), who met at the Savannah College of Art and Design, working on Cooper’s senior thesis film. In fact, I think these kids are still in school.

According to his MySpace page, 8000 bam bam has a bunch of other projects in the works: Hula Hoop, Grandma Q, Food Coloring and Baby Jazz, in addition to Sunglasses, and he plans on directing the music videos for each, which brings me to this – a psychedelic, belly-dancing journey through the universe, complete with awful spandex, awkward hipster chicks dancing, and primitive green screen production, making for a completely awesome music video that you’ll want to share with your friends, and you, yourself, will keep watching because the pairing of the song and the visuals is just so good.

You might ask, “KC, is this a joke?” I’m not entirely sure. I can’t find much written on Sunglasses, other than two blog posts by Dipped in Dollars andTransparent Blog. But listening to 8000 bam bam’s many projects, this all seems legit, and very promising. I think as all these musical ventures and ideas are streamlined, we’ll be hearing a lot more about Sunglasses and 8000, as well seeing more colorful bursts of video goodness to keep our ears, eyes and minds stimulated.

There was a lot of fan backlash when TV On The Radio’s latest album Dear Science was released. People were complaining that the album deviated too much from their previously more experimental, challenging work. All that needs to be said about that is Family Tree.

This song is about a love that is restrained by one of those dated and ridiculous ideas like you can only marry someone of the same creed, race etc. It blows my mind how people follow these “life templates” and make decisions based on ideals that have nothing to do with their individual needs. Sometimes trying to find our identity through others forces us to be narrow-minded, a practice that will lead to unless dissatisfaction and problems that can only be solved through perspective.

Anyways, Family Tree is an amazing production from start to finish. The lyrics are incredible and represent a very important subject that shouldn’t be ignored. Today’s Sample Saturday includes songs from two very prestigious recordings; Illmatic, one of the most critically acclaimed hip hop albums of all time, and Thriller, the best selling album in history. Illmatic introduced the world to Nas’ lyrical talents and established him immediately as one of the major players in the rap game. The album did not receive the immediate success that was expected, but over time it gained the recognition that it deserved. Great music is timeless, and I think a perfect example of this is Illmatic, which went platinum in 2001, seven years after its release. It’s gritty sound and quality of production elevated the game, thanks to a team of producers that included DJ Premier, Q-Tip, Pete Rock, and Large Professor.

The Large Professor produced “It Ain’t Hard To Tell” was crafted in genius fashion, using samples from more than five different records. The horns in the hook were lifted from the Kool and the Gang record “N.T.” The drum break was chopped up from the opening bars of “Slow Dance” by Stanley Clarke. The male vocal snippet that pops up time to time in the song was taken from a live version of “Long Red” by Mountain. And then … as the intro comes to an end and the verse begins, the other samples fall back and we can clearly hear “Human Nature” by Michael Jackson, it ain’t hard to tell.

French record label Ekleroshock is home to two of the meanest and badest producers around right now, DatA and Danger. While DatA has mastered the classic French dance sound, Danger is more on the fantasy/darkside of things, giving us a new style Electro heavily influenced by cinema and the everything 80’s, fresh.. The bottom line is that they’ve both have been making extremely high quality dance music for a while and it’s only a matter of time before they hit that glorious tipping point. If you haven’t heard their work yet check out the Ever Better post or the DatA remix of La Roux’s I’m Not Your Toy, all amazing.

Back when Ed Banger was sending me a copies of all their releases I got the original version of DSL’s Stupid Bitches which to say the least left me wanting for more. The song is somewhat silly to begin with and the production just wasn’t living up to the whole boys mad at girls theme. Then came along the DatA remix and the song took on a whole new energy and excitement. Makes you wonder how many songs could be made better with a remix… Anyways, much to do today so I can’t stay and chat but check out this song and behold the power of the producer, enjoy.

Cut Copy, Oh mercy, Clue to Kalo and the list goes on. The Aussie’s have been pumping out great artist and bands like America Samoa produces NFL players – a lot.

I was thinking of the best way to explain this songs meaning and the only that came to mind was a line from Hypnotize that perfectly captures the songs essense.

The older we get the more we think, rationalize and calculate everything before we act which usually leads to no action at all. The easiest way to lose is to be caught thinking while the world passes you by – “that’s how most of these so called gangsta’s pass.” Given that the nature of the world is endless possibilities you can imagine how lame it can be to get old and get trapped in this mentality. So while most people would call this a love song, I think it has a great meaning to do with capturing the innocence of youth, following your gut and constantly moving forward, enjoy.

I remember when this track came out, I think it was summer of ‘08 and there were all these conspiracy theories about Keedz being Justice in disguise etc. There’s no question this track was inspired by the French duo’s sample heavy dance style but weather or not Gaspard and Xavier are playing one big trick on everyone is inconsequential. The production on this track is so phenomenal that it’s a very special joint regardless of who made it. The sample used in this records is an ’80s gospel song performed by The Joubert Singers. The original Stand On The Word was recorded live in the First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, NYC in 1982, fresh. From communion to club, enjoy.

The year is 2009, the space age. In a move to counter The Industries tyranny, rebel citizens of the Et Musique Pour Tous faction scheme to bring new arsenals to the earth disguising them as mixtapes. Made to introduce innovative and traditionally oppressed styles of art and music to the world, these tapes created a problem for The Industry taking away radio spins from the likes of elemental pawns Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. However, leaders of the powerful and corrupt hosting giant Gisol Incorporated catch on to this operation and in a merciless act to maintain power destroy EMPT and any traces of these mixtapes. Once again forced into the underground, EMPT forges an alliance with a small but powerful hosting company to rebuild and continue distribution of the mixtapes. As the revolution continues the tapes have gained great popularity around the world with more and more oppressed citizens finding new ways of expression and artistic appreciation. On 1.18.2010, EMPT released The Lost Tape, the first of the series destroyed by The Industry. The release is meant to symbolize the struggle and success of the continuing revolution. The second act has just begun, we’ll be busy…

I believe he’s too humble and shy to admit it, since it don’t need more attention than it already gets, but it was EMPT’s first birthday last november, n the sneaky site thought we wouldn’t notice. Properly set up with a spanking brand new server, EMPT has been bigger than ever, but smaller than it will be tomorrow.

So in honor to both the new year and our “EMPT is WE” philosophy, we write this post. I asked people from all over the globe to write a short review of their New Year’s eve experience in order to give you, the sine qua non of EMPT, a post lived by the people, written by the people and enjoyed by the people. Here is the result:

Many of the people I emailed to write for this post replied the same thing: I didn’t do much on New Year’s. It was quite low key. Several messages along those lines lead to a personal epiphany: Are we finally reaching a moment in evolution where youngsters value the relaxed company of family and elderly relatives over a messy dressy tits-up celebration? Well, in my case, I’ve hit that point.
I’ve spent most of my “vacation” working my tiny penny-sized ass off for the epic cause that is our upcoming company. This meant I had less, if any time left to spend with my family. This being the case, I cancelled my trip to Acapunk (Acapulco for the layman) and decided to spend New Year’s with the family. A relaxed fire lit night with my grandmother and Co. has definitely been the most chilled celebration yet. Before my cousins dragged me out to a lush lounge party, that ended up being my cousin-in-law drinking me into a coma, I got a sober chance to warm up the heart beat by bobbing my head to what I believe is the best, if not the only, proper remix of a Daft Punk hit. Just when you thought Around The World could not get any better than their Alive version, in comes Kid Dub and drops his flapping fish. The dynamics of this song are damn straight crazy. I remember when I was leaving JFK airport, I was dancing my way across the terminal to this tune. Hope it has the same effect on the rest of the family.

As the clock ticked its skinny ruthless hand to twelve, my family and I shifted endlessly between two TV broadcasts: the official countdown from El Angel, Mexico City, and MTV2, showing the revolutionary 15 min. music video to Thriller. What a better way to end the year than to enjoy one of the King’s many gems! Well, in mexico, grandmother has shotgun over everything. So obviously, the final seconds focused on the official count down. Have it your way granny. In any case, ’twas an epic countdown all in all. Enjoy – JCOS, Cuernava, Mx.

I opened the New Year in Sheffield, UK with a different crowd to the usual: a group of my friend’s friends aged 20-35, who brought kids… hence u can probably tell it wasn’t the sickest party ever, more of a low key fizzy wine tasting shindig. Although it was not the usual messy party, it was quite nice to bring in the New Year in style. Guess that means 2010 has to be the year I grow up, but that’s neither here nor there. The song selection got more and more random as the night progressed, it seems that everyone became a self-proclaimed DJ that night. We went from a bit of Deadmau5 to David Bowie to the Cure. The whole random mix of music wasn’t my thing. However, what did catch my eye… or ear was the Radio1 broadcast of the NYE gig at the O2 arena in London. This featured artists such as Deadmau5 and Justice, what I found to be a very satisfying way to bring in the fresh batch of 365 sunrises to come. As always, Justice does not disappoint. I’m in Acapulco, b!@*ch! Ahh New Year’s Eve, what an amazing night. Currently on a trip with seven of my friends that has taken & will take us to acapulco, valle de bravo, and mexico city…we decided to go big or go home and throw down in Acapulco for NYE. Since we were staying with our friends’ family, in true mexican form we rang in the new year with the relatives.

We finished dinner at our quite amazing beach-front apartment just in time to pop the Perignon and fill 17 glasses for us all to toast the new year. The clock struck twelve, cheers were given, and then during the fireworks came the first song of the new year. This Time it was Deadmau5’s Ghosts n Stuff. This song will forever remind me of a great midnight, not to mention some of the best ravelishous moments of my nightlife.

Standing out on the patio, champagne in hand, roll in mind, and this time in ears…the true ravers began to dance up the New Year. At 1:30 in the a.m. we headed to PURE, a classy club in the city. With a good mix of the contemporary, the music ranged from Guetta to Pitbull. Our group of 13 danced the night away until “Hey, Good Morning, Watch the sun come up” [to reference one of my favorite EMPT posts] All in all, it was an epic NYE filled with tons of laughs, plenty of drinks, and endless dancing.

New Year’s Eve, a yearly occurrence that is the calendar equivalent of Marmite, some love it, some hate it. I really don’t see the fuss but I do love an excuse to hang out with my old friends and drink the night/ending year away. Oddly, the time leading to midnight seemed to aptly summarize the noughties. I was with my friends that I had made at the start of the decade; listening to music that I’ve listened to throughout the decade; being the person I’ve developed into over the decade; reminiscing about … the decade.It took me three attempts to settle down for the night. The first was on the grass in the garden, the second was on a chair outside, and the third was in a bed inside the shed. Whilst finally falling asleep for the third time, we listened to Sufjan Stevens. His utterly unique sound always fills me with sheer happiness and warmth. His song Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts makes reference to Superman and talks about decency between Man.

MillionYoung – Cynthia

If I was having a “chillwave” day, I’d wake up to a little Washed Out, spend the afternoon with Toro y Moi, and then head out for a night of no expectations, but endless possibilities with MillionYoung.

I’ve totally jumped on this “chillwave” bandwagon. So when MillionYoung was brought to my attention, I wasn’t surprised that I took an immediate liking to the faraway, synthy sounds.

MillionYoung is one-man act Mike Diaz, who debuted his first and appropriately-titled Sunndreamm EP this past September, which you can download for free here. And in just a few days, on January 19^th to be exact, you’ll be able to get your hands on the Be So True EP.

Like Washed Out – which has become the band that every other “chillwave” act is measured against – MillionYoung is balmy and atmospheric. However, more fitting comparisons can be drawn to the likes of Toro y Moi – not only because MillionYoung is sprinkled with electro-pop goodness, but also because both feature just one brave soul exploding into colorful sound.

MillionYoung makes me feel like I am right there hanging out with Diaz, but in this super-enhanced sensory experience. Transparent Blog captured this feeling best when writing about the song “Soft Denial” — ” a new bubbling underwater delirium-disco partypopper… the drowsy, tidal melancholy of its opening reverb-splashed guitar strains eventually opening out into a pulsating juggernaut of humid electro-house like it was no big thing at all.” (For the record, I love everything Jack Shankly writes on this site.)

MillionYoung will be in New York at Glasslands on March 11^th and Pianos on March 12^th. Meanwhile, check out two of my favorite tracks…
