Fleet Foxes – White Winter Hymnal

If you haven’t heard the Fleet Foxes – “Self Titled” album by now your being deprived of some high quality late-sixties sounding pop. These guys pack a very Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Young, Bob Dylan inspired style. The classical influence is also extremely apparent with their use of Baroque-esc harmonies and progressions, some go as far as calling it “Baroque Pop,” a term I am rather affectionate of. Here’s “White Winter Hymnal,” one of the many impressive tracks from this classic album.” Great stuff.

M83 – Kim & Jesse

One of 2008’s best, their album Saturdays =  Youth is one worth revisiting.

Vampire Weekend – Campus

It’s so easy to like Vampire Weekend that some people feel as if it’s not cool to do so. Ah, the many dimension of being a poseur. Too bad, your missing out on some good feeling music.

Ciara – Promise

Face it, with the likes of T-Pain and friends at the forefront of the genre, it’s hard to take mainstream R&B serious these days. I won’t say the music is bad, there’s just very little authenticity. Still, a rose grows in Brooklyn, or should I say Atlanta. Dead smack in the middle of crunk & B, comes a freak of nature song called “Promise.” This song is slow, epic and flat out weird. Takes a minute to understand but you’ll soon find yourself listening to one of the sexiest and extremely good feeling R&B songs since the days of Prince. The dancing in this video is very impressive, nothing special just raw talent. High quality mainstream, enjoy.

The Walkmen – In The New Year

Hamilton Leithauser is the lead singer of The Walkmen, he has an awesome voice, something like an improved Bob Dylan. I can barely make out anything he’s saying but thanks to the incredible vocal performance I completely understand. My favorite song at the moment, here’s to ‘09.

Oh I’m just like you, I never hear the bad news.”

LCD Soundsystem – Losing My Edge

Got an email asking us to blog our thoughts on the current state of music. Only the lyrics of this LCD classic can articulate our position.

KiD CuDi – Embrace The Martian (Feat. Crookers)

This guy is just a good writer, good feel. His influence on Welcome to Heartbreak is overwhelming, a little out there at times but certainly good for music. Here’s Embrace The Martian, produced by Crookers, enjoy.
