EMPT Presents – S U M M E R : a n t i – w i n t e r 1 b by Ryan Radler

That’s right fools, it’s Monday, you’re up early for work, you already want to go home and Friday is no where in sight. You went from cold beers at a beach to hot coffee in a cubicle, it’s the roughest of times indeed. But cheer up old chap!, we’ve got the antidote for anything remotely lame so say hello to the anti-work, anti-monday experience – Ryan Radler’s S U M M E R : a n t i – w i n t e r 1 b.

Last week we introduced you to Radler’s fine wine of a mix tape and we all fell in love. Today we’re doing it all over again with another fantastic tape sure to put some swing in those M word blues. There’s so much I can say about these tapes, I don’t even know where to start. There’s the amazing art work, with all it’s nuance and detail perfectly complimenting the sound of the tape. I’m an absolute nerd for detail and quality and after talking to Ryan about his approach it’s no surprise we would cross paths…

Artwork: I have a penchant for retro/vintage design/fashion/art. If I had it my way, I would be perpetually living back in the 60’s and 70’s. The images I have collected and treated are there to match up the audio with a visual of how I see summer. You may notice a bit of a theme with the mirrored effect. I personally have been a big fan of symmetry and asymmetrical balance… “

Yeah this is a mix tape but soon you’ll see that this labor of love is more like a timeless collectors series, you gotta love it. Last weeks tape was one of the most popular post in recent EMPT history and after listening to 1b on repeat for the last two days I suspect nothing less for this one. Like I said before, this is hands down the best summer mix tape you will find anywhere on the internet, we’re happy to presenting it and can’t wait to bring you another next week. Go check out the mastermind behind this on his Facebook page, enjoy.

I have another non stop day ahead of me but I had to start my day off with this amazing Bag Raiders remix of Monachy’s I Won’t Let Go. The Aussie’s rework the tracks giving it a 90’s house, nu disco and indie pop feel guaranteed to get you feeling good. The track develops slowly so try to resist your ADD and indulge in the arrangement, you’ll be rewarded when the hook comes in. Alright, time to hit the street but press play on this jam and get the feel good going, enjoy.

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Juin

Once again back is the incredible…” – Public Enemy (Bring The Noise)

There’s not much you can depend on in this world, lovers always seem to let you down, there’s never anything good on TV, the radio is lame and the Knicks never win but there is one thing that won’t let you down and it’s LMDM. And guess what, it’s back again for the 13th time with 13 new songs custom made for now, not now but right now. I was putting this tape together for Steph and couldn’t get over how in tune it is with how things feel right now. The heat is coming in, the BBQ’s are burning, the beaches are being invaded and everything is in transition. We’re halfway into 2010 and there’s no shortage of things done and things to do, but there’s no valid reason to not enjoy yourself in the process. Once again, Steph has given us a musical experience full of highs and lows as entertaining as they come. I’m in sunny LA and have to go get some breakfast then head over to Hermosa but bet your best buck I’ll be having this in the background. Here are some words from the chef herself, enjoy.

The Galvatrons – When We Were Kids (Bag Raiders Remix)

So I’ve been keeping on eye on The Galvatrons after seeing this awesome/extremely silly album trailer on their Myspace. The music is cool, the band describes it as interstellar sci-opera and all the usual space age adjectives. Anyways, the real reason for this post is to talk about Bag Raiders, one of my favorite dance remixers/producers.  They’ve released two EP’s since 2007 – Turbo Love et Fun Punch but their most notable work has come in the form of infectious, dance floor rocking remixes. We posted their remix of Cut Copy’s hit Far Away a few months back and then again two weeks ago because well, it’s that good. The production quality on the remixes meets all expectations. The chords progressions are always interesting and exiting, the electro house style drums always sound relevant and tastefully mixed in. If your looking for simple dance music with all the fancy tricks and sound quality this production group has your back. With that said, here are some of our favorite Bag Raiders productions, check out When We Were Kids, sick. I have more but got lazy so these will do for now, enjoy.

Chromeo – Call Me Up (Bag Raiders Remix)

Every time I listen to Chromeo I’m reminded of those old school smooth soul R&B/Funk bands. You know, like the Barry Whites, Fatback Band, Major Harris, the Persuaders. All the guys whose sole purpose as artist was to sing about the many complexities, dimensions and details of macking it to girls on a daily basis. I was always fascinated by those steamy spoken interludes Barry White had in his songs, I mean you have to be deep in the seduction game to pull that off and not come across like a master cheese-ball. Call Me Up is about making the said girl comfortable with some casual phone conversation and flirtatious foreplay…

Call me when you’re sad. Call me when you’re mad
Call me when you’re home alone. Call me when you’re freaky
Call me when you’re nasty. Call me when you wanna *ahem*”

All you rookies can learn a thing or two from this song – making a girl at ease and comfortable around you will get you very far in romance. Communication is key, I know it sounds cliche but if you dive into that concept and apply it you’ll be surprised how open a pretty girl can get and how exiting a love life can be. Here’s the original and Bag Raiders remix/mashup of Call Me Up, enjoy.

Cut Copy – Far Away (Bag Raiders Remix)

So I’ve heard about 6 remixes of Far Away by now and I have to say this is by far the favorite. Bag Raiders are a production duo from Sydney who started buzz last year with their single Fun Punch. Much of their exposure comes from a steady line of popular remixes, all unique, all bangers. This remix is no exception, it never gets boring, the transitions are creative and musical and the song absolutely explodes at about 1:47. These guys know what their doing. Great party music.
