Inspired by the mythical power of the full moon and the famous parties of Southeast Asia, MATTE’s Full Moon develops this narrative with New York’s distinct culture and edge – a transcendental beach party in the center of New York Harbor with sounds, art and food from a carefully curated lineup of musicians, DJs, artists, and chefs.

Full Moon 2013 is New York’s not-to-be-missed summer music event, blurring the line between festival and dance party. In 2012, Full Moon was attended by over 2,500 of New York’s finest and written up by titles such as Bullett Magazine, NY Mag and VICE.

This year, The Beach at Governors Island serves as an urban paradise for Full Moon – a sunset over the Statue of Liberty, a moonrise over Lower Manhattan.

Full Moon’s 2013 lineup will feature Miami Horror, Tanlines, Wild Belle, Cyril Hahn, Float Fall, The Knocks, Yuksek, & more.

Cassian – Nobody

One of my favorite restaurants/hang outs in the city is a new spot called Pulqueria. If you’ve been to that shady alley in Chinatown where Apotheke is then you know where Pulqueria is. The place has no signs and to get to it you have to go open this seemingly random grey door, and go down a dark staircase till you finally find yourself in an awesome Mexican restaurant in Chinatown of all places. I ate there last week before it opened and the food is amazing. If you’re a tequila only person like me then you’ll love the drinks, one of the mixologist from Apotheke is down there cooking up all sorts of interesting drinks you’ve never had before and if you love expanding your palette they’re for you. I DJ’d there last night and will be every Thursday so stop by after 9 PM to listen to some Space Age music, drink some Pulque and eat tacos.

One of my favorite tracks to DJ right now is Cassians Nobody. I played it last night and the way the low end sounds on big systems never ceases to amaze me. I don’t know if it’s that rising chord progression, the funky bass and guitar lines or the sexy blend of them all but there’s something about this jam that just makes you feel like a million euros. As I stood there last night playing Space Age and reminiscing about this movie I continue to live I couldn’t help but think of Le Jours Heureux. Being in that mood made me realize that the problems we create are just excuses. I know that’s a broad statement but contrary to what any idiot might say, we live in a place where nobody will stop you from making the most of yourself but it’s totally up to you. It’s all an mathematics, one thing adds up to the other and if you want something then you just have to be disciplined and determined enough to do the things necessary to get it.

For example, you want to get in shape? Well if you work out everyday and eat right it is absolutely true that you will achieve your goals. 1+1 folks. There’s also a reversal of the law and one thing can subtract from another so if you work out only to go home and eat cheesecake because you think you earned it then you should know what to expect.

Nothing shocks me, I’m a scientist… – Harrison Ford

Contrary to popular belief, life isn’t as mysterious as we would like to think. The universe is governed by certain laws, the mystery is found in discovering them. That said, life always throws a few curveballs at you but it’s always 1+1 so when you’re down you know what you need to do to get up and nobody can stop you. Anyways, great track to get you pumped up for the weekend festivities, enjoy.

Flight Facilities – Crave You (Cassian Remix)

It’s official, after some banging remixes of The Lowbrows, Sneaky Sound System, Toecutter and the Bag Raiders the Sydney based duo Flight Facilities has graced us with the new summer anthem Crave You. This song has at least 8 different remixes by Cassian, Graz, James Curd, C90s, An-2 and Ted & Francis going around and most of them are good in their own way but my favorites so far are easily the Cassian & Bxentric versions. Like I said though, they’re all pretty good so you can’t go wrong if you want to venture out.

Why can’t you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I stare at you…
This boy’s got my head tied in knots with all his games,
I simply want him more because he looks the other way…”

I can’t relate to this song because it’s about a girl who doesn’t understand why her man doesn’t crave her like all the other random dudes on the street and though frustrated this is the very reason why she continues to want him. I’ve had this Warhol quote up for some time now and I think it explains this phenomenon quite well…

The most exciting thing is not doing it. If you fall in love with someone and never do it, it’s much more exciting.” – Andy Warhol

But don’t ask me man, I feel like I have a good grip on the male thought process, if hungry – eat food, tired – sleep, she doesn’t like me – like someone else. However, the vast world of female thinking and rationalization is an elaborate and highly creative invention by the higher powers that I won’t even pretend to comprehend. My only headway thus far have been the wise words of Cyndie Lauper which did enlighten me during times of confusion – “girls just wanna have fun.” If you’re a dude struggling with this, those words drop deeper then you think my friends ; ) Nevertheless, this song is fantastic and I can’t get enough of it. It’s Thursday which means tomorrow is Friday so cheer up and throw this on in the background, you can expect at least a 64% improvement in your current situation, enjoy.

Cassian – Final Round

Cassian

I dedicate this song to all the historic battles that took place back in 1991 when Street Fighter 2 was released. Cassian is yet another talented Australian producer signed to Bang Gang Records and is known for his numerous remixes of Empire of The Sun, Bag Raiders and so on and so forth. There’s not much to say about this track, the production is solid and better yet, he samples Street Fighter for crying out load!

What the f*&k you want for free?” – 50 Cent
