Germany Germany Feat. Kotomi – Real Hero (College/Electric Youth Cover)

I first heard Germany Germany a year ago in a quiet little love affair with a track called Cold Hands. At the time, I hosted a radio show inundated with artists I had obtained from across the internet and across the world. When this track popped up today, I eagerly pulled up the track that had delighted me for a season of 2011. My second and equally exciting  discovery was the name of this new gem. A Real Hero was only the one of the most pervasive and hauntingly beautiful tracks from Drive, everyone’s favorite blood-spattered love story.

Back against the wall and odds
With the strength of a militant cause
Your pursuits are called outstanding
Emotionally complex.

Against the grain of dystopic claims
Not the thoughts of your actions entertained
And you have proved to be

A real human being and a real hero.”

I proudly present you Germany Germany‘s rendition of  College and Electric Youth‘s stunning work. Germany Germany is a Canadian guy named Drew Harris, inspired by the likes of Dntel and The Postal Service. He’s often sparing with the vocals, so he acquired this lovely creature named Kotomi (aka Lauren Hillman). She’s also featured on another of his new tracks, With You. Both are set to appear on the upcoming album Blank Mind Empty Heart (7/16). Create some new loves for 2012.

EMPT Presents – S U M M E R : a n t i – w i n t e r 3 c by Ryan Radler

Today is a bittersweet story as it is with both sadness and joy that I present to you the 2011 conclusion to Ryan Radlers wonderful mixtape series, anti-winter 3 c. Week after week Ryan has given summer luxurious and comprehensive soundtrack setting a unique vibe for all our estival activities – Dear anti-winter, we’ll miss you.

When I use to perform classical music under the tutelage of the the late great Dr. Walter Turnbull we learned that clapping in between movements or grand pauses is inappropriate. That always fascinated me because Dr. T was an incredible teacher and got us sing classics like Cantata 191 with mind blowing passion, I’ve personally never connected with music more then when I use to sing under him, and I’ve definitely never heard classical music sound anywhere close to that good. When we would finish the audience would instantly forget the etiquette and start clapping before they realized what they were doing. The point is that getting into clap mode takes you away from the piece and the experience the composer was trying to create. In the age of skip everything and immediate satisfaction music is rarely given the time to develop and seduce and I think we’re deprived because of it.

Anyways, though they have little in common, Ryans work made me think of those performances because his tapes have the same beautiful structure and movement. I highly recommend just pressing play and allow yourself to be entertained. Sure you could skip around but it’s just sooo much better to sit back and let it breath, develop, settle, build back up and take you on a journey. Anti-winter 3C is yet another fantastic effort and we’re delighted to bring it to you, enjoy.

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Juillet

This is really one of my dumbest flow’s ever, I haven’t slept in days…

I’ve been up for a good 27 straight at this point, I’m not sure. I went from a session with Fabolous on Wednesday night that ended at about 4 am, up again at 11AM for a meeting to finalize our new partnership to another session with Fab & R. Les that went till about 5 AM this morning. Of course I could have gone home to rest but I wanted to finish up the new LMDM for you guys before I leave for the holiday weekend – the show must go on. So many things are happening right now  and I’m so excited that I’ve literally lost the desire to sleep, I wouldn’t have it any other way. To all my partners, to Steph, to everyone who keeps making this life unforgettable, I appreciate everything we’re doing together, we’re really planting some big seeds, just a matter of time now!

I know that ni&@z would kill for this lifestyle, I’m looking forward to the memories of right now. Never forgetting where I came and no matter where I’m heading I promise to stay the same…”

– Drake (2010, Unforgettable)

Steph sent me this tape yesterday but as you can see there was no way I could have gotten it done but honestly this Friday morning/holiday weekend couldn’t be more appropriate for this sound. Just when all you mixtape makers thought you figured her out she smacks you in the face with yet another mad scientist blend of songs, tempos and genres only a music fiend of the highest level could conjur up.

I don’t follow any guidelines, cause too many ni&$z ride mine so change styles every two rhymes – Jay Z (1996, 22 Two’s)

Seriously though, Stephs got her own flow and it’s one of the reasons why LMDM has been such a big hit on this site and around the internet. All EMPT heads know what I’m talking about and if you’re now to this well then your in for a treat, enjoy.

Le Miel du Mois: Julliet – I loooove summer for so many reasons. A reader from last year described one of the mixtapes like this: “like dancing around the edge of a pool late night with a drink and a cigarette and oversized t-shirts and sometimes getting pushed in and you never remember the photos that get taken but you laugh the whole time,” which I think also holds true to the Le Miel du Mois summer series of tapes for 2010. This entire mix is practically remixes, except a few, including the first track: When I first heard this Baby Jazz song called “The Song for the Season” with lyrics including “Yes, its Christmas time” I knew this was a perfect opener for the July mix… Happy Independence Month.
