Rustie – Attak (Featuring Danny Brown)

I feel the need to apologise. Every Wednesday (being my day to write) has been a struggle and release. I realise that many people come to the site to take a break and read through some little thoughts or big thoughts, insight on music, etc. But I use it as a release too. Whatever I am thinking, whatever is bothering me, is released here this day of the week. And as of late, some of it reads a bit heavy. But I need a release, too.

As much of my recent posts may indicate, I am exhausted. Feeling overworked and actually had to schedule in time to do something fun between jobs and going back to school and a relationship and then just dealing with personal me.

So tonight I scheduled in time for fun and ended up at a cinema watching Austin Powers in a hot tub in an old tube station in London with a wrist wallet full of tokens to buy beer and it was amazing. The movie was one part, but then it just turned in to a dance party with a perfect playlist and a DJ dressed as a giraffe. I thought about the last few Wednesdays I have had and realised that I don’t remember going out on a Wednesday since I left LA for London almost six months ago.

Walking home, I couldn’t stop smiling even though part of my head was thinking about what I needed to do as soon as I got home and the other was, “I need to do this more often”.

I am grateful for the life I have and being able to do all of this and sometimes it takes scheduling a few hours of fun in to your calendar and sticking to it like it is the most important meeting of your day and ending up in a hot tub.

I feel like it is the part in the movie where the sort of cliche music comes on when the person realises they are fine and everything is as it should be. But since this is better than a movie and it is real life and EMPT, we have some Danny Brown instead.

Happy Wednesday. If you are on the other side of the world, make it a good night.

Danny Brown – Die Like A Rock Star (Space Gang Redo)

xxx600

This is such a an awesome remix. Danny Brown had created the original track which is harsh (in the best way) in its lyrics and delivery. Consistently referencing the deceased of Hollywood and delivering an almost eery tribute with his unique rap style. I think it is more in his voice than anything that makes him sound like no other. Hip-hop is embracing these unique sounding rappers all showing a slightly different style, others like Chance the Rapper or Slum Village coming to mind.

Space Gang, or Daniel Moore, is an up-and-coming U.S. producer. By adding in the delicate chimes he gives this track a mysterious new sound. The original being a heavy hip-hop track is transformed into a sexy tune letting you listen to vocals rather than be hit with them. I am not sure which I prefer more. One thing for sure is Space Gang is one to watch.

Danny Brown – Grown Up (Explicit)

Alright my friends I have something a little different for you today and I am really stoked about it.  I am a huge hip-hop/rap head, if you have driven in my car with me then you already know this and we haven’t had enough of this genre on EMPT lately.  When I heard this track Grown Up by an independent hip-hop recording artist Danny Brown I was like DAMN I feel this.  I have never heard of this guy Danny until now, which blows my mind cuz he is great, and I love finding new hip-hop that blows my mind like this.  He kind of reminds me of a mix between the Beastie Boys and A Tribe Called Quest. And Seriously this video is too good, in my opinion its genius and 110 percent entertaining, yup your welcome, this is a rare find my friends, I kinda want to be this little kid in the video just not given a S*&t, HA!

Never ever quit I just kept on pursuin’
Teacher always asked me what I was doin’

Whoever thought I’d be the greatest growin up..”

Danny’s been gaining respect in the rap game for a couple years now by getting friendly with 50 Cent and Tony Yayo and eventually getting signed to Fools Gold Records where he came out with his album XXX in 2011.  This cat is on the top of my list right now, he obviously knows what is going on because he has fun catchy lyrics and a great flow which is key since I feel like hip-hop is one of the most complicated genres to master.  I think we will be seeing Danny Brown move up pretty quick.

Watch the video and press play on this magic right here, enjoy!
