Whilk & Misky – Babe I’m Yours

The UK duo called Whilk & Misky are fairly new to the US music scene, and only recently released their first EP, “The First Sip” – in December. “Babe I’m Yours” is my personal favorite of the 4-track EP, and if you’re into Chet Faker-esque vocals paired with folksy guitar and percussion, you’ll probably get hooked too.

I woke up last Saturday with a slight hangover. Thanks tequila!! And as I woke up this song was somehow etched into my mind. Perhaps I had briefly jammed to it before bed, perhaps my brain was simply latching onto something calm stored up there from an earlier listen of the song. Either way, I hazily walked around the house singing the “babe I’m yours” line, over and over, barely able to reach the depth of Charlie’s voice. But it slightly eased the intensity of sore mind caused by the previous evening’s shenanigans. So of course I had the urge to listen to the entirety of the song, and am so glad I did! Mainly because before that morning, I’d only passively listened to the track whilst working and hadn’t truly appreciated the artistry of the duo. The only bit that had resinated with me up to that point was the one line stuck in my head. On that morning, my mind wanted something to help ease the hangover, and it just happened to be the sound of Charlie’s throaty voice and Nima’s folksy strumming. What’s your hangover remedy? Of course mine was accompanied by copious amounts of water.

Whilk & Misky will release their first full album later this year, so stay tuned to their unique sound!

Made In Heights – Ghosts

The electrifying duo that make up Made In Heights have recently released this single, “Ghosts,” which is almost too catchy. Producer Sabzi and singer Kelsey Bulkin work remarkably well together, and this track is a case in point. The first time I heard it I did a double take.. “Who IS this?? I must know!” I love discovering music this way- an accidental catch. I love the app “Shazam” for this reason- I only Shazam songs I reallllly wish to pursue! The songs I don’t want to lose the chance to listen to again. And so many of the songs on my iPod originated in my Shazam “Tags” list!

Try listening to “Ghosts” in the morning; try to resist the urge to hop out of bed and move your feet. It’s the added motivation, the energy necessary to get you moving. It moves me right. And that cowbell! Please give me more 😉

There’s not much I’d like to say about this song other than LISTEN! It will surely heighten your happy mood, or just be a spark of good feelings. Need another excuse to smile? This could quite possibly be it!

Sylvan Esso – Coffee

This song is a paradox. It’s the type that can chill your mind while at the same time making you want to jig with it. The subtle synth and soft female vocals with occasional dings of bells come together quite nicely.

Get up, get down

Sylvan Esso is comprised of Amelia Meath on vocals and Nick Sanborn on instrumentals. I love the way Amelia sings these 4 words above. After listening to the song and having it stuck in my head, I’ve often finding myself singing this sentence almost subconsciously. Catchy! Get up and dance, get down to the beat.

This song speaks to me because I love dancing! Bouncing on my feet to feel-good music is a great way to spend an evening. Although this song isn’t likely one I’d be moving to, it does a good job of making me want to get up at the next opportunity. Perhaps a type of gateway song to a dancing mood. Enjoy!
