EMPT Classic: Kanye West – Welcome To Heartbreak ft. Kid Cudi

We posted this track a while back, like way back, normally we would post the original and write something above it, but we are in the future now and I am doing things a little differently with this  EMPT Classic because I really dig the video which we never featured.  The title of the original post was “Say Goodbye to Hollywood.”  Funny enough I am in Los Angeles for a day and a night with my Little Bear and all I want to do is say goodbye.  Don’t get me wrong I am not hating on LA, but this place has too many memories that are still so fresh in my brain that bring me right back every time I am here and I don’t want to think about those memories.  LA and the memories are like a wound that has healed but now I am waiting for the scar to go away too, and as we know, scars don’t always heal.

Thankfully I am staying on the beach in Malibu and I don’t have to be in the heart of Hollywood where most of the ghosts of memories past still lurk.  It’s a beautiful view where I am at and the ocean is right in my ears so I need to go soak it all in before I have to jet in the morning.  Press play on this oldie but goodie.

EMPT Classic: Large Professor – I JusWannaChill

There was a time when the music in Entourage and How To Make it In America was so closely in sync with EMPT that I use to joke to my friends that someone who picked the music must have been checking out the Space Age. A few years later in a Wired interview with Scott Vener, the guy responsible for selecting music, it turns out that was actually the case –

How to Make Sure No One Else Finds It: Don’t Reveal Those Blogs to Prying Journalists

“I use Et Musique Pour TousRollo & GradyStereogum.”

Check out the whole interview here.

One of the songs this happened with was Large Professors I JusWannaChill, I remember posting that and then two weeks later hearing it on How To Make It In America and looking at my friends like what is going on!

Anyways, this is a classic hip hop track that represents exactly how I feel right now. I recently met a very spiritual person who told me that I needed to rediscover the chilled out and relaxed part of me that’s been suppressed by a lack of love expression and acceptance in my life. The problem is that in order to find your zone you have to clean out the trash and get rid of the very things that cause the friction. You simply can’t move into the future while dealing with the past. You have to get past it and the people who are close to you have to as well. You just gotta approach it with love, let things happen and keep it moving.

That’s not always an easy process but if you’re dedicated to flying high that’s exactly what you have to do. I’ve been dealing with some love challenges recently and there things that are making me act out of character. I don’t mind because I find myself growing in the process, learning more about trust and believing in people. There’s always something positive to gain from every situation and when you know that you know that no matter what happens you’re going to be ok. To anyone trying to test what I love, you’re officially fighting yourself cause…

I don’t wanna ill, I just wanna chill and keep my hands around a hundred dollar bill.”

Re-enjoy.

Back In The Day New York City 1996:

I was 12 years old when I heard this song and it’s been my mantra ever since.

I don’t wanna ill, I just wanna chill and keep my hands around a hundred dollar bill.”

Some people would disagree but I think a persons mood is a decision you make based on your perspective. Thoughts are things and we manifest our own reality so if you focus on something negative don’t be surprised if that negativity comes into fruition. For example, you can choose to be mad at someone and have a crappy day by focusing what pissed you off or you can focus on how to make the situation better. Of course, its easier said then done but it really is an option that most simply ignore.

But nevertheless, in 3-D’s Large Profess
With what I would call a bullshit-proof vest”

I get so confused when someone acts hostile because in the grand scheme of things it just doesn’t matter. I think this applies to love, business and everything in life. So the next time someone brings some negative energy your way tell them to hold on a minute, go to iTunes and put this records on. Enjoy.

Shit, I’m wit cha, I ain’t mad at cha
Got nuttin but love for ya, do your thing…” – 2 Pac

EMPT Classic: Deadmau5 – Raise Your Weapon (Madeon Extended Remix)

Seeing as it is May I thought this would be an appropriate classic to reminisce on.  As Summer approaches our bodies have an urge to slow down and relax but being a New Yorker we have a totally different way of what slowing down means.  There is no slowing down! Things only become more exciting and vibrant, so why slow down?!  DONT..Instead play your music really loud, have a drink during lunch and let loose but don’t slow down.

Re-Enjoy!

_______________

My red-eye flight got delayed 4 hours Monday night, there was an endless supply of crying babies everywhere I went and the lady sitting next to me was wearing dirty hospital scrubs on the plane. What are people thinking? I guess after an amazing weekend like that something had to go wrong. Anyways, I laid back in the cut yesterday to recover and now I’m back in action. It was good while it lasted but I’m so happy to be back in the big apple. I feel like a lot of places try to be a lot of things that New York is naturally

Here I am again in the city
With a fist full of dollars and baby you better believe:

I’m back! Back in the New York groove…” – Hello

Madeon, the 16 year old producer from France is absolutely smashing it these days. Pete Tong recently played his Raise Your Weapon remix on Radio One and his version of Que Veux Tuhas been everywhere and back. By the way this isn’t a bootleg, it’s an official remix released on Mau5trap so I’d say Madeon is doing pretty good as far as 16 year olds go. What’s his formula for success? It’s very simple, create and release great music and the rest will follow. If you’re a young artists pay close attention to this blueprint because it’s the only one that matters these days. I talk to a lot of older people in the music industry who are full of pessimism and don’t really understand the power of our generation, how we communicate and how we consume. Madeon is 16, he made a few remixes, probably didn’t make a dime from it but thanks for blogs and websites he got attention and now he’s in Deadmau5’s circle. I can name 15 other artists how have done the same in a heartbeat. This track is great and Madeon’s story is an inspiration to all of us. That said, I have to go work on my own story but here’s a mid-week banger to keep you going, enjoy.

EMPT Classic: Penguin Prison – Don’t Fuck With My Money (Official Video)

This only seemed fitting considering the way our world is being run as we speak, all the chaos and conspiracies…or are they?  Ha, I really don’t know nor do I like to stress myself out about politics, but man no one is going to play games with ‘my money’!

Here is a nice relevant classic throwback for you all to get your brains swimming outside the box..enjoy!

_______________

This is still one of my favorite songs from 2011 and the theme is more relevant to the current state of affairs than most people know. I’m not really into politics as you’ve probably noticed by now, there are so many layers of power and everything is so cloudy that unless you’re hip to what’s really going on you’re pretty much just talking about nothing. However, given all the movements popping up around the country and the fact that I love this song so much I had to give my two cents about this stuff. I won’t get into a lecture about what’s really going on because we have Google but make sure to educate yourself on who prints the cash in the US. Don’t get distracted by all the nonsense and complicated explanations on TV, it’s 99% diversion, it all starts and ends with the folks who make the paper. When you understand that you’ll understand what “don’t f&%k with my money” really means, enjoy.

EMPT Classic: Poolside – Do You Believe

This classic EMPT throwback just seemed appropriate on this gloomy Thursday.  Where I am I?  Believe it or not I am in LA “where the sun is always shining”.  I would love to be by a pool or at the beach right now tanning my tiny little frame and checking out the scenery if ya know what I mean but alas the sun does not always shine in LA.  Oh well, I actually enjoy a gray day to help me concentrate on my work, but this post has some sunshine in it so press play and re-enjoy!

__________

I’m back in LA, the weather is right, the food is great and the music is perfect. I’ve been traveling so much lately and I love it, there’s nothing like seeing new things and hanging out with new people to enrich your experience. It’s so easy to stay at home, hang out with people you’ve known since high school and relive the great memories forever…

Do you believe that we have brighter days?…”

One of my friends recently read a Bruce Lee quote to me that reads “Be happy, but never satisfied.” I’d never heard that before but it’s something I’ve lived by my entire life. I’m a pretty lucky guy, I have amazing friends, I do what I love and I don’t take any of it for granted but for some reason I don’t have it in me to sit back and be content. I don’t see a limit to where life can go yet all around me are institutions and customs that box you in. I don’t know about you but I’m trying to Christopher Columbus this mofo and explore everything the world has to offer. Listening to this song really made me think about all this so I came across the question that picture ask –

Do you believe in what you want?”

That’s something to think about man because so many things influence what we want. You could mess around chasing something because your friends do it or because it’s tradition or a million other reasons that have nothing to do with your personal desires and that type of action is a recipe for disaster. Long story short, know what you want and don’t be afraid to man up and get it. You may disappoint some people but in the end when you’re happy it will take a crazy person to be mad at you because of it. Alright, there’s much to do while in LA, peep this jam though, it’s perfect for all the holiday festivities. Enjoy.

EMPT Classic: The Oos & Ahhs – 2084

For some reason it still feels like the beginning of the week for me even though the end of the week has approached very quickly.  It’s like when I dribble a basketball and I am so fast that I end up running faster then the ball and it ends up behind me.  I am like the ball at this moment, so I needed a little pick me up to remind me that it is Thursday and the weekend has pretty much begun.  Also I want to leave you with a little piece of wisdom that I learned from Angela, a Soul Cycle instructor: “You are the average of the 5 people you hang out with the most.”  I heard this when I was younger and it didn’t resonate as much, but now it really makes much more sense, and makes you stop to think about those people and the influences/characteristics you take from those people.  So let this wise piece of wisdom resonate with you and if your feeling slowed down like me, let The Oos & Ahhs pick you back up, enjoy!

_______

Alright, make sure you’ve paid your health insurance bills cuz here’s a handbanger that can easily break ya neck. The Oos & Ahhs homage to the classic Orwell novel is highly charged with buzzing bass, explosive synths, and dicing strings, leaving you ready to hit the gym or run from the Thought Police. With iPhones secretly tracking our every location, search engines collecting our personal data, and sattelite surveillance monitoring the planet, it seems impossible to escape the powerful presence of today’s version of the Ministry of Truth. The freedoms and luxuries gained from technology, like everything else in this world, come at a price.

They could lay bare the utmost detail of everything that you had done or said or thought; but the inner heart, whose workings were mysterious even to yourself, remained impregnable.”

When you bump 2084, I want you to feel the powerful message at the core of the instrumental: Make use of your freedom, go hard and have the time of your life. You better get to it because, trust me…

We’ll be watching you!”
