I got this album two years ago but never checked it out until shuffle landed it on it this morning and what a lost gem it is. Open Season is the remix album of Feist’s critically acclaimed 2004 LP Let It Die. If you’re not familiar with Leslie Feist Let It Die is the perfect introduction to her unique charm and sexy voice. The album is as diverse as it comes drawing from bossa nova, chamber pop, chill-out, postmodern folk, French chansons and indie rock, but no matter what style or genre every song just seems to right. I haven’t given it a good listen yet but the obvious standout is the VW remix of Feist’s one night stand story, One Evening. I’m taking it easy before our big party tomorrow and this rain is on my side, this song is making it a breeze, enjoy.

I was watching Nina Simone perform See-Line on YouTube and got reminded of a great cover by Feist, which it turn reminded me of an even better remix by Chromeo.

No one does electrofunk better than Chromeo, period. For this remix, Chromeo lends it’s army of Moog, Roland and Sequential Circuit keyboards to give an otherwise good but simple song some extremely interesting and head-nodding space age production. The Feist version is from her third solo album The Reminder, and the Chromeo remix is a bonus track on that album.  I like The Reminder but compared to her previous album Let It Die, there’s just not much difference so I’ve never gotten into it. Besides that the whole iPod Nano commercial kinda ruined it for me but I’m weird when it comes to commercial licensing. Regardless, great remix, enjoy.

Apparently it’s July, welcome. A lot happened for us in June, we had the most traffic EMPT had ever seen and got shut down in the same month. Our diabolical hosting company Gisol Inc. stole our website and content so we’ve had to rebuild from scratch – no easy task. But atlas there is light at the end of the tunnel and what could be more suitable to celebrate our return then announcing the July version of Steph Lund’s beloved Le Miel du Mois! With that said, here is an excerpt from Steph hinting at the masterminding that helps create this tape:

Le Miel du Mois: Juillet: With the constant rain in June and thinking about the intense heat on its way, this mix reflects the restlessness of summer.
Spotlight Track: The last track is from Paris based artist Three Leaves and a Head – a remix of Radiohead’s Reckoner, off the In Rainbows album. I first heard of Three Leaves and a Head from We All Want Someone To Shout For.
Remixes of Radiohead are a bit touchy for me, because I don’t see how most tracks can improve, however, these subtle enhances Three Leaves and a Head accomplished are really beautiful and a perfect way to end this mix.
