TOKiMONSTA – We Love (Felix Cartal Remix)

TOKiMONSTA is an artist who I haven’t kept up with for years until recently, but her Midnight Menu LP was a formative force in the development of my taste in electronic music. Up until that point, my knowledge of the electronic spectrum was limited to random artists found on YouTube and a user-curated blog where people shared a range of finds with one another via lists and reviews. As someone who trusted the taste of the site’s users, I was introduced to Midnight Menu after reading pages of positive reviews. While I never experienced the same level of rabid fever around the album, it became one of those late night records where I could put my headphones on, close my eyes, and slip into the woozy dream state of TOKiMONSTA’s vision.

Thus, it’s only fitting that TOKiMONSTA has recently reentered my consciousness as my life’s work now revolves around electronic music. Not only have her solo releases this year been absolutely killer, but she’s blessed us with a Felix Cartal remix of her standout track “We Love” that takes the MNDR collaboration and flips it into an airy, ultra vibey cut. Whether it’s originals or remixes, it’s awesome to see an artist who had a genuine hand in fine-tuning my musical preferences so prominently featured across blogs and playlists once more.

Felix Cartal – Tonight (feat. Maja Ivarsson)

I feel electrified
Sunlight in my eyes
Let’s make this day be something beautiful.”

A decadent piano-clap tinged introduction that leads to a sweet and powerful voice from Maja Ivarsson of The Sounds is nothing but happy-go-lucky bliss on this rainy day turned sunshine. This tune is perfect for your Monday blues, because it moves in smooth synchronization with your own beat today. Whether you’re having trouble getting your stride going for the week, or ready to attack this last week of August head on, you’ll be all good to go with your headphones on and this song on repeat.

I’ve always liked Felix Cartal for his ability to mesh pop and electronic together. There’s already a fun-ness to electronic music, but it doesn’t always necessarily appeal to everyone. I mean, of all the genres, I think electronic is the one that definitely brings together the most eclectic listeners. But not all electronic is necessarily popular music. I like when I hear an electronic producer playing with piano and vocals, because those are two really pivotal elements of pop music. Such is the beauty in some of today’s music producers, ones who are able to combine both elements of electronic and pop into one genre to make it feel entirely unique.
