EMPT Classics: Gemini Club – Ghost (Hey Champ Remix)

It’s rainy here in Brooklyn and I really wanted to go get a tree today to have my place smelling fresh, but sadly I am cooped in my apt about to watch some football and chillin’ out to some good tunes like this EMPT Classic, Gemini Club.. Not such a bad way to spend a Sunday now that I think of it.

Re-Enjoy!

Why do you call your music BACHELOR PAD music??????? I am a GIRL (I just noticed that my boyfriend’s music is on your site funnily enough) and I listen to the kind of music you have on your blog in my NON BACHELOR pad. Obviously. I find that very sexist.”

Well Fleur, EMPT is in fact frequented by a mostly female audience and if you read into the site a bit you’ll easily see how much we appreciate everyone that comes to check us out. Also, when I thought of that tag I didn’t really see it as a girl or guy thing, it just so happened that I listened to music I refer to as Space Age and me and all my friends lived in bachelor pads. I wasn’t trying to capture any demographics or any other corny business thing like that, it was…

As you stated, you don’t have to be in a bachelor pad to enjoy EMPT and it doesn’t matter what sex you are. Alright, with that cleared up I finally got around to posting the Hey Champ Remix of Gemini Club’s Ghost. There’s not much to say about it, just another great nu disco track to chill out to. I will warn you, the track gets straight up weird at about 3:27, they start doing some dissonant stuff with the melody that takes you away from that blissful feeling the rest of the track has. Aside from that this is a great jam to chill out to, enjoy.

Blank

So I had an iTunes nightmare Friday night which ended up in me losing all my playlist, client work and DJ selections. Everything I do is based on my organization so the magnitude of this fail is so ridiculous that I’ve found it hard to even have an emotion about it. Instead I’ve been up for the last 48 hours re-doing all the work due in the next few days and pretty much rebuilding my work life. I haven’t had much time to think about it because the consequences of not bouncing back immediately don’t allow it but I’m realizing that this is how all problems should be dealt with – objectively. I could sit here, cry about it, look up to the sky and ask why me or I could void the unnecessary emotions and immediately get fixing the problem. I don’t know if it’s experience kicking in or what but I’m digging this new reaction, it feels kinda like that picture up there – blank.

You ever see Roger Federer lose a point? You ever see him win one? The reaction or lack thereof is pretty much streamlined no matter the outcome. I was always fascinated by that nuance and now I think I’ve really starting to understand it. Win or lose a point, 40-love or love-40, the ONLY objective is to win the next one. When you think about it that way it’s hard to justify worrying about some things.

Anyways, I should be working right now but I couldn’t leave you guys hanging for another day so I had to take a break. I’ve been listening to nothing but world music for a hotel chain in China but this morning on my way to poison my body with more coffee I was playing the latest playlist from the ShaveUrLegz.com crew and it fit the mood perfectly so I thought to share, enjoy…

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Mai

They say time flies when you’re having fun, I guess that why it wasn’t till last week that I realized it’s been a whole year since Steph started the Le Miel du Mois series, wow. We’re getting a lot of new visitors lately so if you’re new to EMPT I recommend you to to the LMDM page and start right back at the very first installment of this series and work your way up to this months. Every tape has stands on it’s own and till this day I’ve never been able to pick a favorite and this month is no different. I know this is my site but I’m probably the biggest fan of this mixtape and since this is a big occasion and all I’d like to thank Steph for gracing us with such great music and taste.

You are appreciated” – Tupac

We’ll be announcing the official LMDM one year anniversary party soon so stay tuned…

Le Miel du Mois: Mai

This months LMDM is particularly special because it marks the one year anniversary for LMDM. The numbers of listeners streaming and downloading keeps growing each month and we hope every mixtape is like a special little present you cant wait to open every first of the month. This month’s tape is mostly dance tracks, my favorite. I like anything fast and loud that I can dance to and I hope you will agree that most of these get that job done. It finally feels like spring, and LMDM’s summer ahead looks danceably and rockingly amazing. Enjoy.

French Horn Rebellion – Beaches and Friends (Hey Champ Remix)

Whose diabolical idea was it to have the best day of the week precede the lamest? There’s something fundamentally wrong about waking up and doing anything other than what your heart desires. Look at it this way, on average we spend 23 years and 4 months or a third of our lifetime sleeping and 20 years working! I mean it surprises me that people don’t take the subject more seriously. I know it’s not the same for everyone but I’ve always felt I could do things much more efficiently if it were on my terms and I’ve never really needed a boss or structure to get things done. Can you tell I have issues with the institution?

Was born to dictate, never follow orders
Di$@face, get your shit straight, f*&k@ this is Big Jay” – Jay-Z (2001, U Don’t Know)

Thankfully there’s music to numb the pains of being pure at heart. This time around it’s a Hey Champ remix I ran into while checking up on The Twelves. Hey Champ remixes whatever they want whenever they want and they do it well. Less talking, more listening, enjoy.

Priors – What You Need (Hey Champ Remix)

We pretty much fell off the face of the earth during Thanksgiving weekend, so there’s a lot of catching up to do. We’ll start with the Hey Champ remix of Priors’ What You Need. Hey Champ has a knack for reviving forgotten gems and just remixing with little to no regard for the latest trend or fad. The EMPT philosophy is quality over anything so we’re big on this approach. Priors is a production duo from France consisting of Yann Destal and Raw Man. What You Need is the only the second track the made together, it’s about a year old and has garnered some serious attention, enjoy.
