EMPT Premiere: Shindu – Just Go (Reflex Remix)

So, I’ve been lucky enough to have been rocking this on my iPod for two months now. And now it’s time that, as faithful listeners of all things good here at EMPT, we brought you the exclusive premiere one week in advance of its release: The Reflex remix of Shindu’s Just Go.

Just Go is a homage to doing what you feel like doing and not giving much thought about what ifs. The true value of this piece of sonic greatness lies in the way that Ludmila Cassar and André Dalcan (a pair both in and outside the studio) –in all aspects– vibrate at the same frequency. The result is a concoction they’ve called ‘Sea Disco’. It has 1 part nu disco, 1.5 parts synth pop and 1/2 pure indie dance. Or so I believe is the recipe (we’d have to ask them).

Sir Jerry Bouthier (Continental Records head and main A&R) sure knows how to select only the best from what France has to offer. And righteously so, he’s one of the main remixers and curators of Kitsuné Maison label/fashion house and all around powerhouse of good taste. I’ve been following Reflex’s work for the last year now and proof that I am not alone in the thought that amazing things are lined up for this duo from a place in the world that has a big big part of my heart — the South of France –is that a plethora of their remixes and reworks have made it to Kitsuné Maison compilations with great success.

One thing that we pride ourselves here at EMPT is not only handpicking the best the world of music has to offer but highlighting artists that we believe will be at the forefront of high quality music in the future. Reflex is just that. And we couldn’t be more proud to share this one with you.

Make sure you stay on the look out for December 10 on all digital outlets so you can purchase this cool tune. In the meantime, hit play as many times as you’d like after the break.

Two Door Cinema Club – This Is the Life

Today has been a day of contemplation and coffee. I have spent the better part of the last few years serving the public their daily dose of caffeine. Seeing the world before 5 a. m. always leads to heavy thinking, and the monotonous routine of each day allows me to process hundreds of tangential questions throughout a morning rush – questions like “what is my place in the world?,””are we a slave to routines?” or “why is he such a dick every morning?” When I came across this track this morning, I asked myself if I had every used the phrase “this is the life.” The short answer: no. The long answer is probably something simple and momentary, exhaustible and elusive.

Feel something right and feel some good
Because if one thing works you might know it’s true

‘Cause if this is the life, this is the life
This is the life, this is the life
This is the life, then who’d argue?”

Two Door Cinema Club is an Northern Irish trio, complete with redheaded frontman. Their first album Tourist History which includes This Is the Life was released in 2010 and was voted Irish Album of the Year. The band cranks delicate and excitable guitar riffs paired with charming, sometimes wounded lyrics. Their second album Beacon debuted in September and touts a well-crafted, more mature sound. Seems they are asking heavier questions as well.

Moonlight Matters – Come For Me (Mighty Mouse Remix)

A couple of months ago I wrote a post on the original version of this kickass banger. Today I’m happy to share with you Mighty Mouse’s take on it. This version is exactly 2 minutes and 10 seconds longer and in those 130 seconds Mighty Mouse pulls all his disco tricks out of the hat and when you believe you’ve heard ‘em all, he manages to pull a couple more surprises from his sleeves. The main synth work over that sexy bassline is quite 80’s influenced, that’s until the drop comes. No matter what happens musically, Gustaph’s vocals always manage to rise above and be the big shining star of the song. He conveys a lot more than words — in every belching of every word you can feel the emotions behind the tone he uses and with it sets. When the second drop comes in and Hercules & Love Affair’s vocalist goes for his falsetto you actually feel the shift to the next gear in this energetic voyage.

This song was released originally within the Moonlight Matters’ EP on Maison Kitsuné (probably my favourite independent label of the last couple of years by much). I highly recommend you follow Kitsuné on Twitter or Facebook because every single thing they release is pure gold — their taste and ears for good music is quite unique. If that weren’t enough they also create and commercialize one of the coolest (in my humble opinion) clothing lines out there for people like you and I. Check it out, the only catch is that some of their coolest stuff is a bit expensive for most pockets but they also have quite nice things for every budget.

Citizens! – True Romance (Gigamesh Remix)

Kitsuné, a record label and clothing brand out of Paris, has been building quite a force of artists including the likes of Two Door Cinema Club and Is Tropical. Citizens! debuted late last year with True Romance and its hard-hitting sentimentality. The song begins with a few simple piano chords that usher in a myriad of instruments that build the intensity, bolstered by the love-struck theme.

Oh my love
Keep your eyes on the road
I am a slave to the lights up ahead
What kind of minds are these that the gods and the television gave us
Hold me love until we disappear againHere we are
True romance
Here we are
True romance
You hold it in your hands – true romance
I found a place to make a stand – true romance.”

With characteristic style, Gigamesh gives this track a good dance-fight kick in the teeth. He never fails to disappoint with his smooth mastery of electro-disco grooves. His style with this one is simple and effective. By that, I mean, you’ll want to spin and make your body move until all your cares float away. That’s like 95% of the reason I listen to music. That could be an exaggeration, but for today, it makes all the sense in the world.

The Knocks & Fred Falke – Geronimo

You wanna go to the sky with me?!

Man, take a look at the world right now. Scientist have have recently made one of the most important discoveries in modern science with the observation of what could be the God particle aka the Higgs Basoon. We’re that much closer to know what matter is made of, are you kidding me?! Our technology is so advanced it’s making all aspects of life easier in ways most of us fail to fully understand or appreciate. The fact that you can learn just about anything simply by taking 5 minutes to Google something is so mind blowing it’s hard to grasp. I know it’s all becoming “normal” and common place but take a moment to marvel at your surroundings people, we live in one of greatest, most progressive times in history…

You need to let the little things that would ordinarily bore you suddenly thrill you.” – Andy Worhol

Progress is happening everyday, time is certainly waiting for no man and the modern life is all about being flexible, learning, challenging what you know and living fast. Geronimo by our boys from BK The Knocks & French House pioneer Fred Falke captures this energy to perfection. Kitsune describes this track as thundering, I would add to that massive, passionate, driving, banging and we’ve just about nailed it. The way this track just keeps getting bigger and bigger makes me think of how I’ve been feeling about progress lately. You have to be active, ruthless and fearless about getting better, keep pushing. That sidechained synth keeps moving the track froward, that’s how you have to be about the things you want, don’t stop. There will always be roadblocks, negativity and challenges but just push through it because the only consequence is getting what you want.

The lyrics are few and simple, just how I like them. The call and response ask two things – do you want to go the sky or fall to the ground? Couldn’t have said it better myself.  The song breaks down to that chant with hand claps and you just want to jump – Geronimo! This is how we do weekends around these parts. Stay live, live the moment folks, let’s get it!

Et Musique Pour Tous Presents: Kitsuné Club Night NYC

All I want to do right now is execute. I’ve been diving so deep into the world of Apple & Steve Jobs that I’ve become completely infatuated with the idea of creating insanely great things to combat anyone else not willing to put in the time, effort and hard work to do the same.

Nothing about what Apple does is easy yet the end result is an offering that meets and often exceeds peoples expectations. On the other hand you have companies like RIM who have entire business models based on getting by with the most minimal effort. Apple forged a rebellion on that type of mentality, it exposed that cheap approach and now anyone who wants to play the game has to significantly raise their level of quality or be  left behind. I love that. The fact that someones artistic integrity and dedication to quality led to a complete shift in business paradigm is as bad ass as it gets for me. Steve Jobs so himself as a rebel, that’s exactly what he was.

I want do that.

We’re going to start our LA takeover tomorrow at the Morrison Room, 8909 Sunset (above Duke’s) at 10PM. It’s not a Noctambule party, that’s on the way, but we have a bunch of people coming so stop by if you want to hear some good music.

Then next week we’re back in NYC with the Kitsuné crew to bring you heartsrevolution, Gigamesh, Plastic Plates, Computer Magic and Perseus, fresh. It’s going down @ Stantos Party House and you can get tickets in advance here. I’ve got some to give away so if you want to go shoot me an email info@etmusiquepourtous.com. In the meantime here are some Gigamesh classics to get you ready for the weekend…

We are the ones that take you out tonight…”

Shindu – Happy House

The beloved Kitsuné sent me this last week and of course great. Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kurok’s team has only been around since 20o2 and they already flaunt an impressive amount of high quality music releases and an influential clothing line. They’ve been at the forefront of every major indy movement since then and continue to pioneer with every record. If you’re game is fashion and music keep your eyes open for Kitsune, they’re a blueprint to study.

Their latest release is a cover of the 80’s hit Happy House by Siouxsie And The Banshees. Keeping true to the trend I spoke about yesterday, this track also has that tropical percussion heavy summer vibe you’ll find hard to resist. Additionally, the songs satirical lyrics poke fun at the people who love to put up a front in their day to day lives. You know the types, they’re miserable but lie to themselves and others in order to keep up whatever poser image it is they want to project. Unfortunately, they all stick together so all you see if poser justifying poser creating this system of fluff that’s impossible to get around.

That’s why my close friends are either too honest for their own good or flat out assholes. Both will tell me what they feel at any time and act on their own accord which helps keep things in perspective. In my book happiness and reality go hand and hand, when you live around the fake you’ll always have something to question which will lead to insecurity which leads to… you get the idea. Alright, I gotta bounce but peep this tropical satire on yet another hot summer day. Enjoy.

Jupiter – Saké

Kitsuné is something like the soundtrack to Parisian highlife. Their compilations are the most surefire way to hip yourself on the future of Parisian music. Their artists not only make the music played in the happening spots but they’re also the DJ’s that play it – talk about owning the scene. I remember someone once telling me that in every society theres only a small amount of people responsible for creating the taste that dominates the era and in the case of these Frenchies that couldn’t hold truer.

Their latest compilation, Parisien, was put together by label head Gildas Loaëc and André’ Saraiva, two guys who know a thing or two about new music. The mix is fantastic, all the music is fresh sounding, entertaining and destined for beach parties, rooftops, pool side lounging, pre-games and any other summer trouble you can think of.

All of the songs are worthy of repeats but my favorite is Jupiter’s Sak, an instant banger guaranteed to get you feeling good, moving and ready to go. The song is about taking a break to relax and drink Saké. That’s probably not hard to do for the EMPT crowd but you’d be surprised how easy it is for people to get caught up working and forget the world exists.

Mastering your craft is important so work hard but don’t forget the world out there. Those trees, that air, those beaches, your friends, you can’t recreate any of that shit on Facebook, on a text, The Sims or whatever digital vice you have. I don’t care if you crunch numbers, make music or write emails all day, take a break every now and then, go for a walk, look around and be humbled by the marvel that’s the world around us. There’s so much inspiration out there and it will translate to your work – that’s where it’s at, enjoy.

Take, take sometime out…

Jupiter – Sake
