After a month hiatus of Le Miel du Mois is finally back with it’s latest installment and man does it feel good to say that. I saw all the comments and got the emails, I missed it as much as you guys but Steph was in the process of leaving New York for London and I can only imagine how busy she must have been.

The LMDM tapes always seem to take me on this joyful ride of reflection and movement, I guess that’s why so many of us have come depend on it to get our months started.  It’s been a crazy two months around these parts, we’ve got more business then ever and it’s been quite the challenge to manage all of life’s offerings with equal care and attention. Not too long ago I would have felt overwhelmed right now but these days I’m all about welcoming challenges with open arms. When you want something you have to be willing to work for it, it takes discipline, constant adjustments and will but more importantly a perspective and understanding of process…

Anyways, this is another amazing tape completely in tune with the feeling of change offered by the season. So happy to have LMDM back, enjoy.

Two amazing albums came out recently: Beirut’s new “Rip Tide” and Hooray for Earth’s “True Loves.” I can’t stop playing them. Go buy them and support the artists,  from start to finish, they are both amazing. Both bands are also touring this (end of summer/fall) so look out to see if they are coming through your city…this mix is a much lighter summer tape – for the winding down- half falling asleep-drink in your hand- smile on your face – sun about to call it quits – type of evenings. If you don’t know by now, LMDM is satisfaction guaranteed. There’s no forumla to it and pretty much the only thing you can expect is that in one way or another it’s going to be amazing. I literally have to pause the tape to be able to write because I get so lost in Steph’s world whenever it’s playing. One of Radio Dept’s singles from their latest album is stuck in my head these past few weeks and a good one for November I think: Never follow suit.. This month’s Le Miel du Mois is made up of a lot of new artists that I’ve been discovering. One of my new favorites is Cloudy Busey, which I found when Altered Zones wrote about them a few weeks ago. Cloudy Busey is the solo project of one of the members from Japans’ Ice Cream Social, an artist you should be sure to check out if you haven’t already. Other new bands to look into from this month’s mix are UK’s Porcelain Raft, Brooklyn’s Quiet Lights, New Jersey’s Slow Animal and Savannah’s Baby Jazz and one of the best debut EP’s I’ve heard this year- Wise Blood. A lot of exciting things are happening this month, Hear No Evil continues to lock in clients, EMPT did over 2 Terabytes of traffic last month which is flat out ridiculous for this underground baby, and moves are being made on a daily to keep things in motion – We get’s busy ya’ll. On top of all that I woke up not too long ago to work on this mixtape and I was in pure delight when I finally got to listen to this months LMDM. Aside from the usual check cashing  and up getting, the first of the month is always exciting for us because it means a new version of Steph Lund’s Le Miel du Mois premiere’s on E.M.P.T. Since it’s inception back in May Le Miel du Mois has been downloaded over 800 times, and that’s not counting the nearly month long shut down we had to overcome. This popular mixtape displays a broad yet refined taste in countless genres, styles and feelings – quite fresh. This is one that needs to be listen to the whole way though as all the songs come together to paint a coherent experience. So without further ado, here are some words from the mastermind herself, enjoy.

Septembre. septembre. les feuilles. le vent. The beautiful feeling of fall across your neck, buzzing through your hair, down to your legs making you run faster and faster until you fall oh into fall into fall into fall. This mix is a little bit softer than the summer mixes. The second to last track is Fever Ray. I was first introduced to Fever Ray a few months ago, when I received it in the mail from The Album Club. Fever Ray is the debut solo album from The Knife’s frontwoman, Karin Dreijer Andersson. I love Karin’s voice, ever since I fell in love with Röyksopp’s “What Else Is There” released in ’05. She is eccentric and eclectic and sometimes her vocals and lyrics scare me, but nevertheless keep me wanting more:

Apparently it’s July, welcome. A lot happened for us in June, we had the most traffic EMPT had ever seen and got shut down in the same month. Our diabolical hosting company Gisol Inc. stole our website and content so we’ve had to rebuild from scratch – no easy task. But atlas there is light at the end of the tunnel and what could be more suitable to celebrate our return then announcing the July version of Steph Lund’s beloved Le Miel du Mois! With that said, here is an excerpt from Steph hinting at the masterminding that helps create this tape:

Le Miel du Mois: Juillet: With the constant rain in June and thinking about the intense heat on its way, this mix reflects the restlessness of summer.
Spotlight Track: The last track is from Paris based artist Three Leaves and a Head – a remix of Radiohead’s Reckoner, off the In Rainbows album. I first heard of Three Leaves and a Head from We All Want Someone To Shout For.
Remixes of Radiohead are a bit touchy for me, because I don’t see how most tracks can improve, however, these subtle enhances Three Leaves and a Head accomplished are really beautiful and a perfect way to end this mix.
