The Count & Sinden – After Dark (Feat. Mystery Jets)

We never had a heart to heart, but you still call me up after dark…”

There’s some serious rain hitting NYC right now which calls for some equally potent anti-bad weather music. The tropical, percussion heavy vibe of The Count & Sinden’s After Dark couldn’t be a better antagonist. I don’t know much about this production team except that they’re from the UK and their debut single Beeper with Kid Sister was club smash back in the day aka 2008.

The song is about a guy who notices his so called lover only calls him in the late night, in other words when she’s had a few martinis to get the “love” flowing.

Round about midnight pretend I’m not here, come to AM and you whisper in my ear…”

Will and Kai from the Mystery Jets make these lyrics quite convincing with their similarly intoxicated delivery. The percussion, guitars and bass line are arranged to perfection on this track. So much so that you kinda wish there was an instrumental out there… Anyways, gotta go stay active to fight the rainy laziness, enjoy.

Mystery Jets – Half In Love With Elizabeth (Delorean Remix)

Released back in 2006, Half In Love With Elizabeth is a song about a guy whose torn between his relationship and his career. Some people have taken the name Elizabeth and interpreted it as the guy being in love with two girls, but if you watch the video you will see references to Queen Elizabeth who is printed on pound notes – money aka career.

But how can you put your trust
In a man who always sleeps in his clothes?

And he’s half in love with Elizabeth
And he’s half in love with you

The balance of relationship and career is a very complicated one, but also necessary and important. Of course this balance is extremely difficult to achieve so most people usually go from one extreme to another. Instead of success and love coexisting some people develop the depressing mentality the two are mutually exclusive, so it’s no longer success and love but  success or love – the wackness. I don’t believe in limits and strongly believe that anything you want is possible as long as you really believe that it is. We have endless options in a universe made of endless possibilities, if you’ve ever felt like something is making you choose take a moment and look at it from the outside because it’s probably nothing real, enjoy.

Mystery Jets – Young Love (The Shoes Remix)

One night of love nothing more nothing less
One night of love to put my head in a mess…”

The funniest thing happened to me last month. I hooked up with a PYT a year ago but somehow didn’t get her phone number, I only knew her first name so I had no way to get in touch and never saw her again. Typically these things would wouldn’t matter but this happened to be a legendary adventure so my below zero heart warmed up to maybe zero at the thought of not being able to relive that again and I regretted not getting her number for a good 30 minutes.

Last month I went to a Gotham Magazine party and what do you know, the same girl is there with a couple of friends… I caught her eye and she recognized me but we both played it cool. My friend Alex and I carried along causing trouble as usual and after a few drinks were in full swing. Alex got caught up in his own mischief so I made my way to the bar and asked the PYT and asked the PYT if I knew her from somewhere, she smiled.  Well one thing led to another and next thing you know were in her loft drinking fooling around…

I push you to the limit when I’m needing the wealth
And all I see is life cycles just repeatin’ itself” – Jay-Z (Can I Live II)

This song is about an amazing one night stand. He hooked up with this girl but didn’t get her name, phone number, Blackberry pin, nothing. It’s a great, great feeling and reminds me of the fun times, enjoy.

Tell me have you seen the girl I met just once before…”

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Decembre

That’s right fool, it’s December 1st and that means a new version of your favorite mixtape maker’s favorite mixtape: Steph Lund’s Le Miel du Mois: Decembre edition. I haven’t told Steph yet but she’s outdone herself yet again. There are so many different spices, seasonings and flavors in this that I think Raekwon is going to have to share the Chef nickname with someone from the new generation, enjoy.

Le Miel du Mois: Decembre

Le Miel du Mois: Decembre features some of my favorite artists, some I have loved a long time (Bloc Party, Sebastien Tellier, Phoenix) and some new favorites (Telepathe, Delorean, Neon Indian). Four artists featured are French, in anticipation for my trip to Paris this month, enjoy and ecoutez: Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sebastien Tellier, Phoenix and Soko. Soko is a French model/actress. I included her song “I’ll Kill Her” which first debuted in 2007, but came back in my life recently when listening to DJ AM’s “Elton John Part 3,” I can’t stop listening to it and wanted to include it on this month’s mix, because, well the lyrics are just kind of amazing: s’amuser.”

Mystery Jets – Bleeding Love (Leona Lewis Cover)

Been running into some great covers lately. Here’s one of Leona Lewis’s “Bleeding Love.” Too good, more to come. Yes, he does look like Edward Scissor Hands in that picture.
