pluko – need ya (ft. Nevve)

A couple of my favorite artists in pluko and Nevve return to the EMPT pages with a straight up smash of a track that I can’t get out of my head. This one is called “need ya” and it’s layered electronic music at its finest with little touches like synths that twinkle away into the soundscape (think a massive kaleidoscope that you can hear) and a straight bumping hook. As usual, Nevve lays down next level vocals that elevate the track to even further heights as she sweetly proclaims “baby I need ya.” It’s all a recipe for a track that’s impossible to shake and immediately makes you want to press play again.

I recently wrote about cutting people off, but this time I’m writing about those we need. We’re individuals with our own perspectives, sure, but we’re also social creatures by nature. We need people around us who trigger those endorphins of love whether it’s platonic or romantic – they’re an essential part of what makes us tick from day to day. In a massive city like Los Angeles, it’s so easy to lose sight of those people when you’re caught up in the cycle of grinding at work day in and day out, especially when it’s work you love to get lost in. We owe it to ourselves to take a step back and show some love for the ones we need!

HOANG – Don’t Say (ft. Nevve)

Nevve is an absolute favorite of mine – the project has been the key element to so many of my favorite songs since its stunning female vocals emerged onto the scene a couple years ago. Thus, I couldn’t think of a more perfect voice to be a part of brand new producer HOANG’s debut single. It’s called “Don’t Say” and it finds the versatile electronic talent laying out a bed of ethereal sounds that hit all the right sonic pockets for maximum impact. It’s sugary sweet goodness that you can’t help but keep coming back to again and again.

There’s also a nostalgic element to the track that makes you feel like you’ve been here before as it teases out a range of emotions from past and present. Much like the picture for the single cover, it’s like a warm summer day that overwhelms the senses and leaves you in a wholly content daze. Days of youth spent wandering around in nature with an eager sense of discovery intersect with a current sense that there’s still more out there to experience. Embrace the inspiring feeling “Don’t Say” offers and go forth!

QUIX – Riot Call (feat. Nevve) [RTT Premiere]

All I am really in the mood for these days is jams that are getting me ready for the Summer, can you believe it’s almost fucking here?!  EMPT gets to premiere this sexy number thanks to a gal who sends me many wonderful jams such as this by QUIX a New Zealand based producer and Nevve, I am going to have my Summer playlist locked down before Memorial Day weekend!

We have definitely been seeing a lot of “Riot Calls” so to speak in the recent weeks leading up to today, lovely Hype Machine has been booting numerous well received blogs from their site with no explanation and no warning, random folks are being ambushed on commercial airlines, our president is like a 15 year making some childish worldly decisions that will cause us all to flee to some livable planet in space.  I mean honestly I wake up hearing about all this stuff feeling like I am part of some satire movie, it just cannot be real.  It’s music that keeps me at peace with the world, music and my daughter.  My “riot calls” are tracks like this that hopefully get everyone pumped on a positive level of readiness for rooftop parties, new love connections, you name it, as long as it makes you feel good then that is something to riot about!

I need to get packing for my quick trip to Cali this weekend so imma put this baby on repeat to get me pumped and ready for sunshine. xx

Illenium – Fractures (feat. Nevve)

Alright so I’ve heard Nevve on some tracks before, but this one…this one is just straight beautiful. The producer of this song Illenium is a master of making music with good vibes all around and he uses Nevve’s vocals in a way that sends chills up my spine with every damn listen! There’s just so much to love about this song, but the hook might be my favorite part when Nevve sings “Coming after, tiny fractures”…

It makes me think about how tiny fractures that happen everyday can lead to an earthquake sized fracture. It might not be right after the tiny fracture, but weeks or months or even years after… This is why it’s so important to make sure we’re always taking care of ourselves and taking inventory on how we’re feeling and dealing with situations throughout the day… And no, I don’t mean micromanaging yourself into oblivion cause that can be just as bad…but pay attention to your thoughts and actions and see what makes you happy and what makes you unhappy. Then, the tiny fractures will heal way quicker and you won’t have to deal with a fault line wreaking fucking havoc in the future!

It’s simple but it’s such an important way to keep yourself on track…and hey, it makes listening to “Fractures” even more enjoyable when you’re already feeling good!

Kill Paris (Feat. Nevve and Monstre) – Junkie (DNMO Remix)

I don’t know how I missed this stunning DNMO remix of one of my favorite songs of 2016 – Kill Paris/Nevve/Monstre’s “Junkie.” The original version captured such a special mood that any remix would have a tough time living up, but damn DNMO comes close on this. The dark, mechanical synth tones that bubble and brew under the track give the pensive vocals a new sense of tension. The drop is truly cathartic, feeling akin to a wall bursting under the pressure of tons of water. Or perhaps like a junkie fulfilling a need for a fix.

It’s such a thin line isn’t it – the human need/want to indulge in something, experience it for all it’s worth…BUT, don’t you dare enjoy it too much and grow addicted to it, cause then it’ll ruin your life. Think about that for a moment. As humans bursting at the seams with emotion, it’s natural for us to want to put all of our energy behind something we’re passionate about. But you’ve constantly got to be aware not to slip over that thinnest of lines, and become a “junkie” for something. You can “over” anything, from work to food to sex to sleep. So maybe the key is to WANT something like a junkie, but control your actions enough to participate in it like a balanced person. Be passionate as all hell in your mind, but ACT as though you’re proceeding with calculated caution. We’re instruments for all things creative if we’re controlled and balanced.

Elephante ft. Nevve – Catching On (B-Sides Remix)

You know those songs that make you nod your head along like a bobblehead with an extra bouncy spring? Well if you don’t, you will now with this remix of Elephante and Nevve! B-Sides straight up kills it with an upbeat sound that makes me wanna break out my old shuffling shoes and neon hoops and get down this very instant…there’s no need for bells and whistles here, just a super fun synth and good vibes.

Of course I couldn’t talk about this song without mentioning its crazy good vocals and lyrics…Nevve sounds so damn smooth that I could just listen to her sing on repeat. And lyrically, all that talk about “love is languish” and “you string me along don’t you” hits *way* too close too home. It’s obviously wrong to blame someone for not giving me the perfect romance I have in my head, but sometimes things get tricky and it’s impossible to ignore how much it sucks at the time. You get an idea in your head of how your relationship should go, and when it doesn’t, it’s easy to feel betrayed…I mean we’re not perfect you know? We’re just human!

Anyways, if you’re feeling down about your love life, go cheer up and listen to this remix. Oh, and for the readers out there that somehow haven’t heard the original “Catching On”, today’s your lucky day! You can also listen to the equally amazing original below.

Elephante (feat. Nevve) – Catching On (PLS&TY Remix)

PLS&TY? More like yes please! I loved Elephante’s original version of “Catching On,” but damn this new remix turns a sexy, Urban Outfitters ready song into a future bass banger. We see remixes of awesome songs everyday on Soundcloud, but sometimes I have to sit back and think about how crazy the idea of a remix is…isn’t it mind blowing how one musician can take another musician’s vision and turn it into something totally new? In a year where things aren’t looking too bright, I feel hopeful when I think about one person being inspired enough by another person to make their music something new and beautiful like this “Catching On” remix!

Remixes aren’t the only thing this song made me think about though. The line, “I’m a prisoner in my own head,” is something that I vibe with… always overthinking things, then thinking about them again, then thinking about them just a bit more more for good measure! It’s a flaw that I’ve always had and I worry that it’ll never go away, but the drop in this song feels like a giant dam cracking open and releasing all the stress of being stuck in my head. I know I’m probably filling in between the lines, but it makes me feel comforted like I’m wrapped up in a blanket of good vibes and in the end that’s what good music is all about right? I have to say I’m feeling a lot better after getting all that out, so thanks PLS&TY.
