Huck Finn – Charles Dickens

As colder winds begin blowing and we hunker down for a nor’easter, it’s important to maintain a stockpile of electricity-free distractions. Forget the canned beans and dry milk. I’m talking the classics, people. Classic literature. What better way to pass the time than tackling Tolstoy by candlelight. Sure, gathering with friends around your favorite whiskey can whittle away a few hours, but ask yourself, what will you after everyone passes out?

In honor of my most favored tradition of reading when there’s nothing else, I present you with Huck Finn’s synthed-out circus ride. The Swiss outfit pays homage to both author and novel throughout the song and the bandmates. (The members are Finn, Berry, Tom and Jim, all characters from the book.) Charles Dickens, the song, is a little bit like an unwritten love story. The narrator is putting all his faith in the celebrated author’s ability to craft a plot. The playful medley of sound keeps you spinning, and, reaching across creative boundaries, is reminiscent of Peter, Bjorn & John’s Blue Period Picasso.

Another chapter that’s just begun
We have to move on to move on.
How do we move now?
Charles is the only one who knows how.

Listen girl,
I believe
In the end.
It sets us free.”
