Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Mai

They say time flies when you’re having fun, I guess that why it wasn’t till last week that I realized it’s been a whole year since Steph started the Le Miel du Mois series, wow. We’re getting a lot of new visitors lately so if you’re new to EMPT I recommend you to to the LMDM page and start right back at the very first installment of this series and work your way up to this months. Every tape has stands on it’s own and till this day I’ve never been able to pick a favorite and this month is no different. I know this is my site but I’m probably the biggest fan of this mixtape and since this is a big occasion and all I’d like to thank Steph for gracing us with such great music and taste.

You are appreciated” – Tupac

We’ll be announcing the official LMDM one year anniversary party soon so stay tuned…

Le Miel du Mois: Mai

This months LMDM is particularly special because it marks the one year anniversary for LMDM. The numbers of listeners streaming and downloading keeps growing each month and we hope every mixtape is like a special little present you cant wait to open every first of the month. This month’s tape is mostly dance tracks, my favorite. I like anything fast and loud that I can dance to and I hope you will agree that most of these get that job done. It finally feels like spring, and LMDM’s summer ahead looks danceably and rockingly amazing. Enjoy.

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Fevrier

I get stumped whenever people ask me what kind of music we feature on EMPT, mainly because I think the best style is no style which in turn encompasses all styles, I mean it’s complicated. We don’t follow forumulas here, in fact we avoid them like a superstition. For everyone who want’s to know how we pick songs, well, we turn up the volume really loud and see what feels good. Anyways, I just spent last week in LA and if it wasn’t for this mixtape I would be a very unhappy camper – thanks SL…

I don’t follow any guidelines cause too many ni$#@z ride mine
So I change styles every two rhymes, hah, what the fuck…” (Jay-Z, 1996 22 Two’s)

Le Miel du Mois: Fevrier

A lot of these songs are taken from forthebeat posts from the last two weeks. Forthebeat’s KC found some real gems including an unknown band out of Atlanta called Sunglasses, a South Carolina native called Coma Cinema and then there’s California based Peasant, all acts to definitely look out for this year. Of course I had to include one of my ultimate favorites, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, actually there’s 2 tracks from them on this mix because after all, what’s a month without Karen O? A dull one friends, a dull one.

Sunglasses – Whiplash

You might ask, “KC, where did you find this song?”  I don’t know.  But these breezy beats with a southern twist are pretty addictive, and I’ve listened to this song over and over since first discovering it yesterday.

Sunglasses is the brainchild of 8000 bam bam (Samuel Cooper) & Baby Seal (Brady Keehn), who met at the Savannah College of Art and Design, working on Cooper’s senior thesis film.  In fact, I think these kids are still in school.

According to his MySpace page, 8000 bam bam has a bunch of other projects in the works: Hula Hoop, Grandma Q, Food Coloring and Baby Jazz, in addition to Sunglasses, and he plans on directing the music videos for each, which brings me to this – a psychedelic, belly-dancing journey through the universe, complete with awful spandex, awkward hipster chicks dancing, and primitive green screen production, making for a completely awesome music video that you’ll want to share with your friends, and you, yourself, will keep watching because the pairing of the song and the visuals is just so good.

You might ask, “KC, is this a joke?”  I’m not entirely sure.  I can’t find much written on Sunglasses, other than two blog posts by Dipped in Dollars andTransparent Blog.  But listening to 8000 bam bam’s many projects, this all seems legit, and very promising.  I think as all these musical ventures and ideas are streamlined, we’ll be hearing a lot more about Sunglasses and 8000, as well seeing more colorful bursts of video goodness to keep our ears, eyes and minds stimulated.
