Inspired by the mythical power of the full moon and the famous parties of Southeast Asia, MATTE’s Full Moon develops this narrative with New York’s distinct culture and edge – a transcendental beach party in the center of New York Harbor with sounds, art and food from a carefully curated lineup of musicians, DJs, artists, and chefs.

Full Moon 2013 is New York’s not-to-be-missed summer music event, blurring the line between festival and dance party. In 2012, Full Moon was attended by over 2,500 of New York’s finest and written up by titles such as Bullett Magazine, NY Mag and VICE.

This year, The Beach at Governors Island serves as an urban paradise for Full Moon – a sunset over the Statue of Liberty, a moonrise over Lower Manhattan.

Of Monsters & Men – Little Talks (The Knocks Remix)

This is a pretty exclusive remix from The Knocks my EMPT friends, I had the luxury of seeing their post about this one on facebook yesterday, how nice right?!!  I had the luxury of meeting JPatt & B-Roc briefly at a party in downtown NYC last fall.  Super cool dudes, already flying high with all their fans but had the most humble attitudes, which is something that totally draws me to an artist so much more.  I have met artists that I loved and just had the stinkiest attitudes and just wasn’t drawn to them anymore…So keeping a cool down to earth attitude no matter how big you get is the most important thing as an artist and something I am always reminding myself of as my career keeps moving.

Anyways, this track got me really pumped because its perfect for the ending of Summer, it’s so damn sexy which is perfect as well for Santa Barbara fiesta week which is where I am currently at.  Little Talk is already such an amazing feel good track with the sexy horns which I am always saying are one of my favorite instruments that just brings such a liveliness to any track, but then The Knocks give it just a bit more speed and that reggae beach feel which I get from a lot of their remixes and you just have the perfect mixture of a sexy, laid back party feel, a vibe which I am particularly fond of.

I am really excited to be leaving this one with you guys this evening, so press play, feel the sexy, and lets get the weekend poppin’, there is so much too be excited about, enjoy!

The Knocks & Fred Falke – Geronimo

You wanna go to the sky with me?!

Man, take a look at the world right now. Scientist have have recently made one of the most important discoveries in modern science with the observation of what could be the God particle aka the Higgs Basoon. We’re that much closer to know what matter is made of, are you kidding me?! Our technology is so advanced it’s making all aspects of life easier in ways most of us fail to fully understand or appreciate. The fact that you can learn just about anything simply by taking 5 minutes to Google something is so mind blowing it’s hard to grasp. I know it’s all becoming “normal” and common place but take a moment to marvel at your surroundings people, we live in one of greatest, most progressive times in history…

You need to let the little things that would ordinarily bore you suddenly thrill you.” – Andy Worhol

Progress is happening everyday, time is certainly waiting for no man and the modern life is all about being flexible, learning, challenging what you know and living fast. Geronimo by our boys from BK The Knocks & French House pioneer Fred Falke captures this energy to perfection. Kitsune describes this track as thundering, I would add to that massive, passionate, driving, banging and we’ve just about nailed it. The way this track just keeps getting bigger and bigger makes me think of how I’ve been feeling about progress lately. You have to be active, ruthless and fearless about getting better, keep pushing. That sidechained synth keeps moving the track froward, that’s how you have to be about the things you want, don’t stop. There will always be roadblocks, negativity and challenges but just push through it because the only consequence is getting what you want.

The lyrics are few and simple, just how I like them. The call and response ask two things – do you want to go the sky or fall to the ground? Couldn’t have said it better myself.  The song breaks down to that chant with hand claps and you just want to jump – Geronimo! This is how we do weekends around these parts. Stay live, live the moment folks, let’s get it!

Santigold – The Keepers (The Knocks Remix)

Playing at Juanillo Beach in Dominican Republic

My boys Mr. J-Patt and B-Roc of The Knocks take this one out of the park. Fresh out of the oven they bring us their rendition of my favourite track out of Santigold’s album Master of My Make-Believe.

The song is not quick to the trigger and leaves a couple of surprises further into it. It’s an electro-infused spatial disco remix (with a hint of dubstep?). The synth work on the bridge makes you want to release yourself, and then, just then, it builds up to a drop that is sure going to make the crowd go wild.

For DJs it’s a perfect track to take the set to the next level. For the savvy consumer that includes this in their weekend playlist, it’s a gem — it’ll make the guests jump and talk about it all night.

Without further ado, I give you The Knocks treatment on The Keepers.

[Image Caption]: Although you can’t appreciate it, Broc and Jpatt performed in the picture above shoe-less. I witnessed this. They were so happy that day that they slammed one of the drums so hard that they broke it. It took place (I was gonna say last summer, but in my home island of Dominican Republic it’s Summertime all the time) last Christmas on the virgin beach of Juanillo Bay.

The Temper Trap – Fader (The Knocks Remix Feat. Samuel)

I really enjoy both versions of this track for different reasons.  The Tempers Traps original version has the vibrant rock/indie up tempo vibe where you hear it and you just want to jump around where ever you are.  The way the drum and bass kick in right away with the high energy harmonies being a perfectly precise instrument all on their own, makes for one great high energy track.

But then I can never resist a remix, especially a really good one by The Knocks whom I have mentioned before are a really great duo, paired with Samuel and you’ve got something special to listen too.  When you think of an electronic remix you might think fast uptempo, but they slow down the Fader track very nicely so that you feel like you are in a more dreamy vibe probably in front of a pool or a beach on this gorgeous Sunday with a drink in hand admiring the view whatever that may be, use your imagination!

It shows a lot of great diversity in the track and the artists that are handling it with obvious care, to be able to give it two great distinct vibes so that you can play them back to back and yet its like your not repeating the same track but two very different ones.  I wanted to give you fine readers something upbeat and also a little more relaxing to vibe out to this Sunday, so press play and don’t even worry for a second what’s on your agenda for tomorrow, enjoy!

Dragonette – Let It Go

I am a huge fan of Dragonette, her energy and attitude which you hear in her vocals and every word that comes out of her mouth, it’s very real, it’s not forced.  This is something I am always noticing first hand when I am listening to more and more artists especially female artists, of this generation, a lot of them seem like they are forcing something , believe me you can always tell, and why would you want to listen to someone who isn’t feeling what they are telling you, you wouldn’t!

The creeps in this video will go to great extremes to ensure you’re always happy, even if it means leaching happiness from other unsuspecting humans and condensing it into pills to feed to you. The weirdos think you need help keeping your thoughts light and your mind vacant. We think you should let it go.”

Everything about this track screams high energy and an honest attitude, you even see it in the video, with the carefree, dance how you feel it, just “let it go” attitude.  Dragonette definitely has a hint of outrageous in her style, but never trying to hard, some of us are naturally outrageous and I say embrace that if your born with it!  I needed something high energy with that 80’s vibe which if you haven’t noticed really gets me going every time, and with the positive lyrics this couldn’t be a better package to get your Saturday moving and forgetting about the week that is now well behind you.  Dragonette is touring all Summer and I really need to get on some of those tickets quick, not only that but if your a fan of The Knocks, which I most definitely am, they will be touring with Dragonette in September.  These tickets are sure to sell out so get your asses on the cool kids train and snag some tickets!

Alright enough chatter, press play and have a great weekend, enjoy!

EMPT Presents – S U M M E R : a n t i – w i n t e r 3B by Ryan Radler

I think releasing Ryans mixtapes on Monday’s has completely altered my perception of this previously dreaded day. I don’t know about you guys but everything in my life revolves around music, it’s my bread & butter, my hobby,  basically all of the above. I love it so there are no complaints, however I’m a fan of music before anything but since I’m always behind the scenes I rarely get to play that role. That’s why these mixtapes are such a treat for me. Once a week, I get to totally kick back and just enjoy someone else’s work on and vision and that’s mastercard priceless to me. By now you all know these tapes are predictably amazing so I don’t have to sell it to you, just Ryan Radler mixing up styles and genres like clockwork. That said, I’m gonna order some grub and chill out for the entirety of this tape before getting back to work, a much needed break. Enjoy.

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Juin 2011

The second I pressed play on this tape I had to stop dead in my tracks to sit back and take it all in. It’s only Wednesday and this has already been one heck of a week…

That’s why I’m heading for the coast, it’s the only reside I know… – Loud Valley

Of course, dead smack in the middle of it all Steph sends me  a therapy session in the form of a mixtape that puts everything in perspective. The first five songs in this tape were meant to be together, in that order and released on June 15th, 2011. If you’re busy, overwhelmed with work and need something counter the load put this on repeat, it’s guaranteed to make it better. If you’re an LMDM fan you already know each tape stands along and this one is no different.

I myself have a bunch to do before heading to the water this weekend but I had to share this new tape with you before doing anything, enjoy.

The artist I am most excited about this month is Metronomy. Check them out if you haven’t already. They have three albums and have done many many amazing remixes. Another is Connan Mockasin, another UK based artist, but native to New Zealand. I couldn’t contain my excitement and amazement for CM’s video for “Dolphin Love” when my friend Maggie Godwin first showed it to me. Read her post and watch the video here. Connan supported Mystery Jets for a London show last summer and most recently opened for Warpaint on their UK tour.

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (The Knocks Remix)

od4

Sleepyhead is like 20 years old in blogs years and I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to sit through another remix until I ran in my latest muse, Sleepyhead (The Knocks Remix). Most of you know the Passion Pit story by now but for those who don’t here’s a cliff notes version. This song along with the entire Chunk of Change EP from which it’s from was written for the lead singers (Michael Angelakos’) girlfriend. The EP ended up catching fire at Emerson and the rest is history. The power of love? You bet. In this song Michael is recollecting on a passionate night he had with his girlfriend. The song is written from her point of view, praising him for the experience. Fresh.

That said, it’s Friday, I have meetings all day and can’t write as much as I would like to about this fantastic love song, so just press play and enjoy.

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Aout

New month – new Le Miel du Mois mixtape on EMPT. I would write more but it’s Saturday and I need to back out in the sun asap, enjoy.

Le Miel du Mois: Aout:  Last month, one of the fans of the monthly mix, “kiki,” commented on how Le Miel du Mois: Juillet makes her feel: “like dancing around the edge of a pool late night with a drink and a cigarette and oversized t-shirts and sometimes getting pushed in and you never remember the photos that get taken but you laugh the whole time,” Le Miel du Mois: Aout, aims to invoke the same exact feeling, but with a few minor alterations: sans pants, and add in flashing, flashing, lights lights lightssss.”
