Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Juillet 2012

If you haven’t noticed by now EMPT is in a new era. Some have noticed the new direction and expressed concern but in my mind if you’re not getting better you’re getting worse. Sometimes you have to be a little disruptive to move forward and break your comfort zone which may be keeping you stuck in a certain place or patten. Think of a company like RIM, what they were doing in their glory days was awesome, they innovated the smartphone yet they rested on their laurels and never disrupted their own patterns. Instead they let another company come along and do it for them. Steve Jobs always said it’s better to cannibalise your own products with something newer and better than let your competition do it for you, I couldn’t agree more.

That said, we’ve destroyed our old ways to rebuild something brand new and now we’re giving you more music than ever, more variety and more perspective yet it’s all still within the taste and style of the EMPT you know and love. We’ve got an all-star team of writers, Ryan Radler bringing nothing but mixtape greatness, Mollie keeping things going and oh did I forget to mention we still have Steph Lund’s beloved Le Miel du Mois on our roster…

Let’s take it to the basics, you in the midst of greatness,
My Martin was a Maison rock Margielas with no laces…” – VSVP Rocky

So here we are another Monday, another installment of LMDM and it’s fantastic – tell me something new. As usual Steph covers the full spectrum constantly taking us to and fro bittersweet love, desperation, lust, hope, dance, chill out, summer times, good times, you name it. I can’t stress this enough, do not let your microwave listening habits interfere with experiencing this tape. Every single song was selected and sequenced a certain way for your listening pleasure so do yourself a favor, press play and let take on the LMDM experience, you won’t regret it. Enjoy.

Diamonds, pearls, they feel alright. when i see you standing there, the evening sun upon your hair. covered up with garden dirt. with just one glance you tear my skirt.”

The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love (Dimitri From Paris Erodiscomix)

This track is exactly what I needed on this foggy Wednesday, its been so dark all day long but this track has definitely distracted me from all the gloom.  The lyrics in the track are really amazing, and says so much about how deeply you can feel about someone, and honestly if I start writing about love you might be reading for days since I am a hopeless romantic so I won’t go there…At least not today.

I love the different transitions in this track, which is what really captured me and kept my attention throughout the whole 5 minutes.  Dimitri’s remix is really unique and while doing some research I found out his musical influences came from growing up in the 70’s and he brings that disco feel into his work which is really refreshing.  I love the music from the 70’s and combining it with a modern feel makes it all the more thrilling to listen too.

on this journey you’ve given me
i’m walking all the time
now you’re walking right next to me
the mountains we will climb
all the feeling i have for you
standing in your shoes
when i cry you heal my pain
help me come unglued…”

How deep is your love?

The weekend is creeping up and there are meetings to prepare for and much to do, so press play, this baby will definitely get you feelin’ good…Enjoy!

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Octobre 2011

After a month hiatus of Le Miel du Mois is finally back with it’s latest installment and man does it feel good to say that. I saw all the comments and got the emails, I missed it as much as you guys but Steph was in the process of leaving New York for London and I can only imagine how busy she must have been.

The LMDM tapes always seem to take me on this joyful ride of reflection and movement, I guess that’s why so many of us have come depend on it to get our months started.  It’s been a crazy two months around these parts, we’ve got more business then ever and it’s been quite the challenge to manage all of life’s offerings with equal care and attention. Not too long ago I would have felt overwhelmed right now but these days I’m all about welcoming challenges with open arms. When you want something you have to be willing to work for it, it takes discipline, constant adjustments and will but more importantly a perspective and understanding of process…

Flowers need water to grow, it gotta rain
And in order to experience joy you need pain
Every time a baby is born, somebody slain
You know the saying, somebody’s lose is another’s gain
The sun comes out when the water goes down the drain
When the rainbow in the cloud comes out we do it again…” Jay-Z (Gift & The Curse, Guns & Roses)

Anyways, this is another amazing tape completely in tune with the feeling of change offered by the season. So happy to have LMDM back, enjoy.

Its fall! The weather is perfect for some last minute solo strolls with this month’s LMDM. A lot of new artists included whose full EPs/albums are really worth the purchase. Be sure to check out more from Micachu & the Shapes, Ghostpoet, Breton, and 17 year old Zoo Kid. Also, some great new albums out including  The Rapture, M83 and Real Estate, all of which have some new tracks included in the latest mix.’

with love from London! xxx Steph…

The Rapture – Get My Self Into It

There’s been a lot going on lately. My college roommate GoodWill produced that Justin Beiber song Latin Girl which got leaked, we’re getting more and more music branding clients, I’m producing the new G.O.V. project, working on a great new artist called Mollz, spent the weekend finishing up a new mixtape with Kevin Casey and that’s just the beginning. So excuse the sparcity of posts as of late but with all these things on the horizon it’s hard to sit down and write these days. However, all it takes is a good song to get me going so when iTunes shuffled to the 2006 Rapture single, I had to make my way to the computer.

There’s not much to this song except for a great drum beat, good vibes and a bittersweet mantra…

Gotta get myself into, gotta get myself into it, why not help me do it…”

If you have to go to work early on Mondays I would find this a very useful mantra, enjoy.
