The first time I was introduced to the sultry sound of Falcon Punch was around a year ago right here at EMPT, when I ran into his dynamite debut single “Where You’ll Stay.” I love when things come full circle, and when I was sent this track a little while a back by FP, it immediately went into heavy rotation. Another display of dark, island Congo-esque funk, Falcon Punch dug around his crate, came out with The Spinners’ chart topping hit from 1972, “I’ll Be Around,” and added his delicate touch.
The result is a smooth chune that will start your day (and week) off on the right foot, and is the type of track built for a gentle sunset or midnight hot tub dip. Plug this one on when you’re with someone that makes you feel at ease, someone that makes you know that everything is going to be just alright. Someone who you know, through thick and through thin, will always have your back, and will always be around to ease your troubled mind on the other end of that telephone line. Someone who will be there.
