Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Juillet 2012

If you haven’t noticed by now EMPT is in a new era. Some have noticed the new direction and expressed concern but in my mind if you’re not getting better you’re getting worse. Sometimes you have to be a little disruptive to move forward and break your comfort zone which may be keeping you stuck in a certain place or patten. Think of a company like RIM, what they were doing in their glory days was awesome, they innovated the smartphone yet they rested on their laurels and never disrupted their own patterns. Instead they let another company come along and do it for them. Steve Jobs always said it’s better to cannibalise your own products with something newer and better than let your competition do it for you, I couldn’t agree more.

That said, we’ve destroyed our old ways to rebuild something brand new and now we’re giving you more music than ever, more variety and more perspective yet it’s all still within the taste and style of the EMPT you know and love. We’ve got an all-star team of writers, Ryan Radler bringing nothing but mixtape greatness, Mollie keeping things going and oh did I forget to mention we still have Steph Lund’s beloved Le Miel du Mois on our roster…

Let’s take it to the basics, you in the midst of greatness,
My Martin was a Maison rock Margielas with no laces…” – VSVP Rocky

So here we are another Monday, another installment of LMDM and it’s fantastic – tell me something new. As usual Steph covers the full spectrum constantly taking us to and fro bittersweet love, desperation, lust, hope, dance, chill out, summer times, good times, you name it. I can’t stress this enough, do not let your microwave listening habits interfere with experiencing this tape. Every single song was selected and sequenced a certain way for your listening pleasure so do yourself a favor, press play and let take on the LMDM experience, you won’t regret it. Enjoy.

Diamonds, pearls, they feel alright. when i see you standing there, the evening sun upon your hair. covered up with garden dirt. with just one glance you tear my skirt.”

Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Janvier 2012

I’m in Cali, the weather is nice, I’m renewing my love for the grind, so many pretty girls, feeling healthy and I’m flying up and down these streets in my A5 with the…

Top like a rock star, I got a fast car
We can cruise the city, doin’ a buck-sixty … – Jay-Z

To top it off Steph just sent me a new the first LMDM of 2012 – sometimes you just gotta take it all in…

So it’s no secret, I’ve been MIA lately. The move to LA has been nothing close to easy. The first night I set up all my  equipment 4 separate neighbors in my complex complained and my landlord was kind enough to give me the option to move out (1 week after moving in). It’s hard out here for a noisy musician but it’s all good now, I signed the lease on a house in West Hollywood so now I can make all the noise I want. There’s never a valid excuse but with everything finally settling down you can expect EMPT to be back to it’s regularly scheduled programming in no time.

What can I say about this months installment of LMDM that hasn’t already been said about a Michael Jordan, it’s clutch, amazing, the best. As usual Steph turns her own style upside down and brings a flavor and twist to the series we’ve yet to see, I love it. LMDM is always an eclectic experience but this time around theres a very interesting blend of acoustic and electric that you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else. I’m the biggest fan of all these tapes but this one is special folks, don’t miss out. I’ll let her tell it…

I dont know if its because its winter or what but the slow ones really hooked me for this month. Although there’s something to be said to flip that, slow tunes for warm weather are very fitting sometimes, as well. And this is coming from a girl that prefers to be put to sleep by techno blasting from my speakers, true story, ever since I can remember (since age 11/12 at summer camp…). Anyway, this tape needs to be played with appreciation. Appreciation for the slower ones. As an impatient person wanting everything now now now fast fast fast,  Let it go…it might even start sounding faster and faster, even at the pauses. – Steph

Le Miel du Mois: Julliet

Apparently it’s July, welcome. A lot happened for us in June, we had the most traffic EMPT had ever seen and got shut down in the same month. Our diabolical hosting company Gisol Inc. stole our website and content so we’ve had to rebuild from scratch – no easy task. But atlas there is light at the end of the tunnel and what could be more suitable to celebrate our return then announcing the July version of Steph Lund’s beloved Le Miel du Mois! With that said, here is an excerpt from Steph hinting at the masterminding that helps create this tape:

Le Miel du Mois: Juillet: With the constant rain in June and thinking about the intense heat on its way, this mix reflects the restlessness of summer.
Spotlight Track: The last track is from Paris based artist Three Leaves and a Head – a remix of Radiohead’s Reckoner, off the In Rainbows album. I first heard of Three Leaves and a Head from We All Want Someone To Shout For.
Remixes of Radiohead are a bit touchy for me, because I don’t see how most tracks can improve, however, these subtle enhances Three Leaves and a Head accomplished are really beautiful and a perfect way to end this mix. Check out Three Leaves and a Head’s Myspace page which also includes a remix of Nude.
