I’ve listened to a lot of music in my day but when it’s all said and done I still come back to Michael Jackson’s Thriller as my favorite album of all time. The reasons are endless but it’s mainly because of the vibe and energy Quincy Jones was able to capture in those records. The care, authenticity and quality of that album has yet to be matched and it will be a very difficult task to surpass it.
That said, I thought I’d post David Rubato’s 1998 gem Circuit for exactly the same reason – the feel. I was at the Standard Hotel’s rooftop aka the Boom Boom Room recently and the views from that place are just incredible, 360 degree views of Manhattan and the Hudson River but as much great as that place is I was still somewhat jaded, I guess concrete and high rises isn’t exactly my type of awe inspiring beauty. There are some beautiful cities out there but for the most part I need beaches, trees, nature and open space to really get the best of life and this record gives me that feeling for some reason. When that synth comes in 42 seconds into the song and does a little tango with the chord progression, wow, that’s space age bachelor pad good life music right there. So here’s a little something to help you daydream the hours away as you sit in your job starting at the clock waiting for the weekend to finally arrive, enjoy.
