We walk the plank with our eyes wide open. I don’t know what it is about that line but it sure got my thinking. There comes a certain point in your life when you think you’ve learned enough to stop making mistakes yet somehow things continue to happen. Is anything really a surprise after a certain point? For example, every girl I’m around is always on a diet, a diet which they constantly break even though they are well aware of the price they will pay. That’s just a small example but it seems like people have a tendency to knowingly do the right thing, it’s almost as if we slightly crave a little bit of destruction in our lives.
We walk the plank with our eyes wide open…
I’m interpreting the song on a intimate level but I think Goyte is talking about human nature in general. In sounds like he’s been watching the news, analyzing the state of things and can’t understand why despite all the knowledge offered up people continue to consume/destroy…
Some people offered up answers
We made out like we heard
They were only words
They didn’t add up
To a change in the way we were living
And the saddest thing
Is all of it could have been avoided
I can only imagine he’s talking about topics like global warming, the economy and so on. I have my own opinions on the subject but like Michael said, if they say why? Tell them that it’s human nature. Great song, even better message, enjoy.
But it was like to stop consuming’s to stop being human
And why’d I make a change if you won’t?
We’re all in the same boat
Staying afloat for the moment
