I tell you folks, Australians give pop music a good name. My latest muse from the land down under is Sydney’s Catherine Kelleher aka Catcall. Her debut LP The Warmest Place is due this summer and from the sound of this single it’s going to be a good year for the Aussie.
Satellite is great but for one reason or another I didn’t really feel compelled to post it right away. Then this morning I check the EMPT soundcloud submissions and found a version by a dude named Maxwell Olson that gave the song a whole new life. I don’t know much about Olson but I love his production style, it’s big on bass, the arrangements are interesting and he has an amazing sense of spacing. His use of Catherine’s vocals and dramatic instrumental breakdown gives the song a surreal dreamy feeling that I can’t seem to get enough of. Cheers to Olson for giving EMPT the exclusive, we look forward to more. I wouldn’t say the remix is better than the original but it does somehow compliment it very well and makes you appreciate the raw version in new ways. It’s interesting how that works, enjoy.
