It’s not everyday that I encounter music from a graduate of the school that I attend. It’s surprising that this doesn’t happen more often, seeing as The New School is teeming with creative and imaginative, not to mention talented individuals. Enter: Lion Babe, also known as Jillian Hervey. I actually encoutered the music video for this song before the song itself — that is to say, someone sent me the video but not necessarily because of the song. The vocals alone are space age-y enough to take us elsewhere. I can’t help but think of Little Dragon, although there are significant differences, the two seem to share the same powerful female lead parts and that is definitely something worth noticing.
Just wait until you get to the middle of the song — at that point she’s just showing off, and I love it. I hope we see a lot more of Lion Babe in 2013, I’m curious to see if this song is just an experimentn in the genre of spacey ethereal sounds, or if it will remain consistent.
I’m in the light, I glow
But you know not to touch me, cause it might burn
If it don’t work
But soon you’ll see the truth after the smoke
