Fever Ray – When I Grow Up (D.Lissvik of Studio Remix)

First of all, I always thought this was a great song but this remix takes it to another level. The original is dark, eerie and introspective, this remix converts it into a sun-drenched, playful and inspiring piece with a tone that’s more inspiring than sad.

When I grow up
I want to live near the sea
Crab claws and bottles of rum
That’s what I’ll have
Staring at the seashell
Waiting for it to embrace me…”

I’m not exactly sure what this song is about simply because there are so many feelings, passions and understandings expressed in it that it’s a bit overwhelming. The point of view is clearly that of an adults but the childlike innocence and need for affection portrayed make it sound like it’s a child trapped inside of an adult waiting for something or someone to help it exist.

I put my soul in what i do
Last night i drew a funny man
With dark eyes and a hanging tongue
It goes way bad
I never liked a sad look
From someone who wants to be loved by you…”

If I didn’t have a meeting to go to I would try to tackle these lyrics but we’re in the middle of some big developments so I have to run. Either way, for those of you stuck in the office I highly recommend taking a trip back to your childhood and zoning out to this song for the next 4 minutes, it’s a good feeling. Enjoy.

I put my soul in what I do…
