Just attended my 2nd show of The Naked and Famous last night (pic above), they validated again to me, they’re here to stay. Their album, Passive Me, Aggressive You, was hands down my favorite album of 2010. As their fame grows, the Kiwi’s are starting to make their presence known to the rest of the United States. Their distinguished electropop feel with catchy hooks continues to echo in my head for days. It’s refreshing to see a band with such potential hit such a high note on a freshman album, however, they now have set the bar high for themselves. I hope when they return to the studio, they can build off their momentum. Everyone knows of Young Blood by now I’m sure, but this crafty remix from M83’s side project, White Sea, has given the superb track a unique feel. Morgan Kibby captures the essence of Young Blood by adding a slow build into a choppy takeoff:
We’re only young and naive still
We require certain skills
The mood it changes like the wind
Hard to control when it beginsThe bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeahCan’t help myself but count the flaws
Claw my way out through these walls
One temporary escape
Feel it start to permeateWe lie beneath the stars at night
Our hands gripping each other tight
You keep my secrets hope to die
Promises, swear them to the sky”
I can’t stress enough to give TNAF’s album, Passive Me, Aggressive You, a listen immediately if you haven’t already done so. White Sea adds to their brilliance as if you enjoy M83, you’ll hands down enjoy anything from them as well. Enjoy your Saturday while you retain your Young Blood.
