Rodriguez – Sugar Man (The Goldfish Remix)

Often we become so comfortable with our opinions and cognitive biases that our thoughts become escape and coping mechanisms for our weaknesses. Through these mechanisms we become addicted to defining things that happen in our lives and consequently create a world in which those definitions become horse blinders for our perception of life and it’s events. For example, a person who only see’s the world through darkness or sadness will never be able to fully understand another perspective because everything in their mind starts at sad and dark and then defines itself from that perspective.

A lot of these problems arise from people forgetting that we are first and foremost creators. The world is nothing but a projection of your thoughts – life is a movie of your thoughts. We create what happens based on the aggressive and receptive principals, laws of attraction. Where you chose to direct your aggressive energy will in turn create those very thoughts and because you’re manifesting those thoughts you will also receive like energy in return. I’ve struggled with this so much in my life but as I focus on meditation and looking at life from the view of energy, vibrations and frequency I’m noticing the contradictions in my actions as well as those around me that could be detrimental to progress. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to play both sides. Jay-Z once said “I’m like Che Gueverra with bling on, I’m complex.” Some would argue he’s confused. You can’t live the darkness and then go around saying you’re about the light. Another much more inspired line from Jay in his earlier times sums it up nicely…

Leave my friends in a circle pouring out Henny
For Jesus is Heaven bound so how I’m gon’ receive anything y’all pour to the ground?
Next time throw it up…” – Jay-Z

In this age of gluten-free everything and world changing health awareness we can’t forget mental health and the power we have as creators. An unhealthy mind can do more damage than most recognize and in this world of marketing you can’t just sit there in arrogance thinking it hasn’t been corrupted in one way or the other. Mindfulness is essential to that health because…

“The mind is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master.” – Robin Sharma

Meditation is the answer here, don’t be your own Sugar Man. Enjoy.

Rodriguez – Hate Street Dialogue (Round Table Knights Searching For Sugar Man Edit)

I happened to download Searching For Sugar Man last night after watching the Oscars this weekend, (if you’re reading this go download it somewhere), and man it is definitely an Oscar winning documentary worth watching, I already hear Rodriguez’s music in the next award winning Quentin Tarantino flick.

Who is Sixto Rodriguez?  Did he set himself on fire at a show, did he shoot himself in the head in order to make the most grotesque rock statement known to man, nope, as exciting and crazy as those stories might be he is very much alive.  I guess what’s so bizarre to me is how America didn’t really embrace his music, especially during the early 70’s when he emerged, it’s never too late though.  Sure there were record company’s interested, but I think maybe being a music god to the world wasn’t a concern and maybe his music was just his own expression not caring who was listening, standing on a different planet with engaging voice and words.

Woman please be gone
You’ve stayed here much too long
Don’t you wish that you could cry
Don’t you wish I would die.

Seamy, seesaw kids
Childwoman on the skids
The dust will choke you blind
The lust will choke your mind.

I kiss the floor, one kick no more
The pig and hose have set me free
I’ve tasted hate street’s hanging tree
I’ve tasted hate street’s hanging tree.”

The way the United States idolizes musicians like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Stevie Wonder; that’s the way South Africa looked at Rodriguez.  Rodriguez’s music was about freedom of expression, something that wasn’t aloud in South Africa during the Apartheid, in a way this music freed everyone from the pain and sadness, crazy how music can have such a physical and mental affect on people especially during such a sad and depressing time.

” He’s my most memorable artist. Ya know I’ve produced a lot of great one’s, but he’s my most memorable.  He’s not just a talent, he’s like a wise man profit.” – Steve Rowland

“In South Africa Cold Fact was the album that gave people permission to free their minds, and to start thinking differently.” – Craig Bartholomew-Strydom (Music Journalist)

This whole story and journey really showed me how one person, Rodriguez, isn’t looking for recognition or fame, he is simply loving every step of life, took it all in and wrote about it with so much beauty and depth.  A poet and man who truly loves where he comes from, doesn’t let the hardships in life get him down, appreciating the little things in life.  Opens your eyes to the fact that we don’t really stop to appreciate life, the people in it and beauty in it all.

So everyone, press play and enjoy this wandering soul with a purpose only to love this life we live, ‘this wise man profit’….Rodriguez.
