Alexander Ebert’s Truth is one of my Top 5 favorite songs in 2011. Without getting too into it the song is about exploring and dealing with your dark side, issues and weaknesses in order to see the light in yourself and in turn see it in others. Throughout the jam Alexander explains his struggle and comes to the conclusion that the darkness is a necessary part of the positivity he’s trying to achieve.
The truth is that I never shook my shadow
Every day it’s trying to trick me into doing battle
Calling out “faker” only get me rattled
Want to pull me back behind the fence with the [cattle]
Building your [lenses]”
Reminds me of yin and yang which basically says that opposites only exists in relationship to each other and that there is a very complex and natural interdependence between contrasting forces. It’s not everyday you get this type of honesty and introspection in music so I def don’t take this one for granted.
Anyways, I woke up this morning to find a brand new remix of this song by the White Arrows in my inbox. I’m in LA so I thought I’d show the locals some love before getting the day started. They did a great job bringing the Western inspired original to the Space Age.
Alright, these LA mornings don’t get old man and I have to go outside and soak it all in, enjoy.
